"PAST LIFE: I EP"

I is a collection of songs set to appear on Past Life’s upcoming cassette. The EP is short, energetic, and sweet: none of the three songs exceed 2:30, with the shortest one clocking in at under two minutes. At its core, Past Life’s EP could most simply be called a collection of rock songs. Punchy, fuzzy, and full of electricity, Brooklyn-based Past Life’s debut (preview?) EP is recorded evidence of their live act that has been playing shows in Brooklyn over the past several months. - No Smoking Media

"Premiere: Past Life / Smiles - Split EP"

As it turns out, Past Life are actually based in New York. But the melodic, pop-tinged power chords of the driving opener “Sever Your Love” are undeniably reminiscent of Dookie. From there, we get two additional songs from the fledgling band—formed just this past January—that showcase a bedrock of punk paired with playful chord progressions that hook and reel you in. “Hate Bloomer” brings SoCal stoners Wavves to mind, especially with listless lyrics like “Hanging around, weighing me down / Wasting away every day.” On the other hand, the wistful “Ojai 1” evokes Pavement. And true to their roots, the longest song here clocks in at 2:20.

Overall, this split is a fantastic introduction to two bands that are just getting started. Past Life and Smiles both have plenty of room to grow, but each group has laid a solid foundation that harkens as much to their predecessors as to various contemporaries. I’m excited to see what their futures hold. - Thrd Coast

"Punk Pop Done Right: Past Life"

If you are one of the few lucky music lovers who are familiar with punk pop pioneers Husker Dü, you should check out this brand new NYC band called Past Life, because they'll surely bring back exciting memories. They released their three track, self titled debut EP in January 2015, and single "Server Your Love" (streaming) is currently rocking our socks off. Check them out on May 17th at Pianos and May 24 at St. Vitus. - The Deli Magazine
