"PLAYAFUNK"

- Picta

There's a cumbia track on this album called "America Canta Cumbia." Its simple premise states that cumbia music is present everywhere "from Argentina to Canada" and as many others have claimed in the past, it's a sort of new musical lingua franca of the continent...... - The Hard Data

"Free Download: Patafunk’s “NegraChinaLatina” ft. Ferrari Snowday"

Negra, China, o Latina? Patafunk’s latest Brooklyn residence is indeed a melting pot that just keeps brewing. By way of Venezuela and DJs by trade, this duo with no specific genre (because they have over a dozen) lays what I feel is safe to call a funky electrohop track, none other than “NegraChinaLatina.” The “funk” in Patafunk does also suggest soul, house, tropical, and reggae.

Made up by Cem and Su Patafunk, the Spanglish sung tune features New York’s hip hop duo Ferrari Snowday where they sing soul-like and R&B vocals. The track also carries sonic-sounding synths, electropical bass, and lots of playero grooves that’s certainly beach-bumpin’ friendly. See what I tell y’all! All these sound descriptors just keep rolling out.

Last week this duo performed at The Spot by Heineken, so I’m definitely still high of their cool Playa-soundscapes. Off their latest album, get track number 2 here for FREE. - Remezcla.com

"Mexican Institute of Sound, Patafunk + Nacotheque"

Brooklyn based Venezuelan duo Patafunk’s music is loaded with tropical funk, hip hop swag, electropop, and sunshine reggae, intermixing ever-so-sweetly traditional funky rhythms with urban technotronic. Fusing more than a dozen genres, there is really no one way to coin a name for Patafunk’s ever-amalgamating and killer sound other than, well, “Patafunk.” Made up of DJ/instrumentalist Cem Patafunk and designer Su Patafunk, the band’s had a lot of success in South America, with their first album Dubdelic shooting to #2 on the Venezuelan charts and being named best album of 2008 by Rolling Stone Latinoamerica. Their new album, Playa, seeks to find a deeper sound, and we’d say they succeed. - Remezcla.com

"Listen: Patafunk gets electro-tropical with Playa"

Venezuela-based duo Patafunk’s Playa LP is loaded with tropical funk, hip hop swag, electropop, and sunshine reggae, intermixing ever-so-sweetly traditional funky rhythms with urban technotronic. Fusing more than a dozen genres, there is really no one way to coin Patafunk’s ever-amalgamating and killer sound.

The tracks on Playa inspires to imagine laying on a white sandy beach with a clear turquoise ocean and large lukewarm waves, like Su Patafunk envisions, while Cem Patafunk thinks of it as the ideal beach, either real or imaginary. I’ll add to that drinking some chilled piña coladas with rays of an orange setting sun amusing my sight. However that goes, Patafunk creates an audibly gratifying LP that’ll get us groovin’ and make us wanna road trip to the nearest playa. Get ready summer! - Remezcla.com

"Patafunk releases album"

Echoes of peace, understanding and bliss in the sun permeate the songs of Venezuelan dance music master Patafunk’s latest album, “Playa” (Beach).

The album, released through independent distribution on June 16, is Carlos Eduardo Martínez and Susana Colina’s latest effort to find peace through rhythm, a quest they started with their first album, “Dubdelic” in 2008. - Inforsur Hoy

"Patafunk – Playa"
