Bio

The music of the Pat Cotter Band is a unique blend of folk, pop and rock with exceptional harmonies. At the core of the Pat Cotter Band is, you guessed it – Pat Cotter.

Patrick J. Cotter began his musical training when he was 9 years old at the world renowned St. Michael’s Choir School. At the Choir School he was immersed in choral music. In addition to the vocal training received at the Choir School, he also studied instrumental music (piano and classical guitar). Patrick’s younger brother Matthew also attended the choir school and picked up the bass guitar and violin. Not only did the Cotter brothers sing choral music on a daily basis as part of the school program, in addition to receiving training in instrumental music; they were selected to participate in numerous school singing tours (which included Italy, Trinidad and Tobago, and British Columbia).

While in high school (still at St. Michael’s Choir School) the Cotter brothers, along with two other friends from the school, started their first band: Anonymous Big Fish (A.B.F). The band’s songwriters (Pat and Matt) took their choral music background and moved to the opposite end of the spectrum with Anonymous Big Fish (although their classical training manifested itself in the vocal harmony). Now, at 21 years of age, Pat’s music has matured along with him and with the Pat Cotter Band. His music has moved back towards the middle of the spectrum, with a unique combination of folk, pop, rock and outstanding vocal harmonies.

Pat is currently studying music at York University and will be pursuing graduate studies in music composition next year. He is also completing his A.R.C.T (performance) in piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition to the piano, he plays guitar, mandolin, banjo and drums. After writing a variety of songs, Pat and company went to The Pocket Studios in Toronto and recorded the demo CD The Pat Cotter Band. All the songs on the CD are written by Pat Cotter (with a little help from his brother Matt).
