Bio
Originally from Philadelphia, Pat Dougherty is an Alt-folk singer-songwriter, who travels around the country with a guitar on his back stating in bold letters, "THIS MACHINE STILL KILLS FASCISTS." A strong advocate of independent art, Pat Dougherty is devoted to keeping music an art form and not a commercial product. Currently signed to the underdog indie label Keep In Touch Records, he brings a punk rock attitude to the music business through the voice of experimental folk music.
Pat Dougherty is an international recording artist, and is known for playing every instrument featured on his records. With a unique song-writing style, He sings first person narratives told from hundreds of different characters, and weaves melodies that range from cacophonous electronic feedback soundscapes to stripped down acoustic pieces. His music is currently being sold all over the world, and is available on iTunes.
Backed by his band, The Second-Hand Opera, they have been called The Loudest Folk Band in America. Pat refuses to use set-lists so their high energy concerts are never the same, and often include completely unplugged performances in the middle of the audience.
His songwriting has been praised by the likes of legendary singer-songwriter, John McCutcheon, who asked Pat to open for him after hearing a demo of his. Pat has performed all across the United States, and has shared the stage with numerous gifted musicians such as: Rhys Chatham, Elephant Micah, John McCutcheon, Fruit, Haley Bonar, The Alarmists, Bill-Mike, and members of Akron/Family,
Megafaun, San Agustin, Town and Country, USA is a Monster, and Swans
