Bio

Pat Langley is not the sort of new singer you expect to appear on the jazz scene. Not that her style is exceptional. She has a weakness for torch songs, and she sings them in a simple, straightforward style. And she could never be the ‘best new young artist” of this or any year. In fact, she has recorded her first CD at a time when most people long for retirement.
And thereby hangs a tale...
Pat first visited France in 1975 as a university student. For her, Paris was pure enchantment. Every street, every corner, every molecule of French air was magical. The seeds of a lifelong dream were planted during long walks through the world’s most romantic city: One day, she would live in magical France.
Back in the States, real life soon swallowed up those young dreams and others, including hopes of having a singing career. Eventually she did return to her long-lost love, the study of all things French, at the University of Illinois at Chicago. And in the still of the night, she still dreamed…if ever I get the chance….
Then -- a bolt out of the blue -- the opportunity to participate in an exchange program between UIC and the Normandy Business School in northern France. Settling down happily in Caen, she taught marketing communications to French and international students over the next four years. Then one night, she dropped into a club in the Vaugeux District in Caen, where she heard a local jazz trio. Caught up in the sheer joy of their music, she suddenly knew she wanted nothing more than to sing again.
Long story short, she decided to record a CD, and with the patience and support of her new jazz friends – voilà --Without Him, an album of standards created in a tiny studio in Caen, with one ballad written by her.
Never give up. Never surrender. Never stop loving the music.
