The best kept secret in music
Press
Trumpeter Patrice Barbanchon, originally from Winnipeg and a Humber College grad, launched his new indie CD Trio Nouveau Live on Wednesday at The Rex backed by discmates Gord Mowat(bass) and Kevin Brow(drums). This rare combo, with Barbanchon's cleanly articulated sounds and slippery lines, makes accomplished music, with fresh sounding originals, standards, tunes by Bjork and Charlie Parker and a bold, and well-executed approach. - Toronto Star

Bio
Patrice Barbanchon (Trumpeter and Composer) made his solo recording debut in early 2003 with Trio Nouveau Live on the Stand Back label. This release has brought Patrice's "cleanly articulated sounds, and bold, well-executed approach" into the public eye. He has worked with many ensembles, and has been named "Outstanding Solo Performer" at The Elmhurst Jazz Festival in the year 2000.
As a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Patrice Barbanchon has achieved much success as a trumpet player. Patrice started playing the trumpet at age ten, and soon found his love for music and his desire to perform. He started experimenting with improvised music at the age of 13, and at the age of 16, founded his first self-titled group, The Patrice Barbanchon Quartet.
After secondary school, Patrice went on to study classical trumpet at The University of Manitoba. He was involved in many valuable groups such as The University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, and Jazz Orchestra. During this time Patrice was very fortunate to have studied with the likes of Richard Gillis, Lisa Norris and Brian Sykora. Once he fulfilled his studies at The University of Manitoba, Patrice went on to achieve a Bachelor in Jazz Studies from Humber College in Toronto, Ontario. While at Humber, Patrice studied and played with such greats as Phil Woods, Renée Rosnes, Paquito D'Riviera, Byron Stripling, Don Thompson, Steve McDade, Brian O'Kane, and Steve Crowe.
Patrice now lives in Toronto and finds himself performing at many different venues around the city. His current project is a European tour set for the summer of 2004.
