A Travelling Voice
Patricia Cano is a Canadian singer/songwriter born to Peruvian parents whose musical education has been nurtured by an astonishing multiplicity of references, something this album establishes from the very first track. Notable are the influences of Brazilian music (the Brazilian guitarist Carlos Bernardo is featured in the album credits as co-author of many of the songs), the Peruvian “festejo” rhythm, as well as Jazz, among other less immediate influences.
The result is an elegant exercise in musical syncretism in which Cano´s diaphanous voice shines bright, a voice we will most certainly hear more about in the future. An auspicious debut!

The music on this album – my first – was born on the mysterious music route that connects Sudbury (Ontario) to Lima (Peru), to Paris (France), to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)… and back again to Sudbury!
Born and raised in Sudbury, ON, a northern Ontario mining town, my parents (Peruvian immigrants) had the foresight to send me to French school. This decision granted me three languages from the very start, a gift that I am most grateful for, and one that has opened many doors for me thus far.
While living in Paris, I met my musical partner, Carlos Bernardo, an exceptional Brazilian composer and guitar player with two important albums to his name: Pacífico (1997), and Agua Nova (2002) (www.carlos-bernardo.com). He and I were fortunate to share the same Master at Le Théâtre du Soleil (prestigious French theatre company), a man by the name of Jean-Jacques Lemêtre; a highly respected world musician, teacher and theatre practitioner. Our collaboration was further enriched when we traveled and studied many months with traditional drum and voice masters in South Korea.
Exceptional experiences like these have come to shape our unique music: traditional roots, from Peru and Brazil, mixed and morphed beautifully and intensely with the essence of Jazz, Blues and Soul...
… And in no less than four languages: French, English, Spanish and Portuguese!
INTENTION:
To play as much as possible, all over Canada, as part of the Jazz AND Folk festival circuits, as well as at any and all places of music!
To open for more established bands!
To aggressively promote this album here at home in Canada, as well as abroad.
To perform in Paris, France, as well as other major cities of Europe like Madrid, Berlin, London, etc…
To perform in Seoul, South Korea as well as other parts of Asia!
To continue making music!

La musique sur cet album – mon premier – est née sur la mystérieuse route musicale qui lie Sudbury (Ontario) à Lima (Pérou), à Paris (France), à Rio de Janeiro (Brésil)… et de nouveau à Sudbury, ON.
Je suis née, et j’ai grandi à Sudbury, ville minière du nord de l’Ontario. Mes parents, immigrés péruviens, m’ont envoyé à l’école française à l’âge de trois ans. Grâce à cette décision, j’ai commencé la vie avec trois langues dans ma bouche et dans mes oreilles. . . Un atout qui m’a ouvert de nombreuses portes le long de ma carrière artistique!
Lorsque j’habitais en France, à Paris, j’ai connu mon complice musical, Carlos Bernardo, un compositeur / guitariste exceptionnel brésilien avec deux albums solo à son actif : Pacífico (1997), et Agua Nova (2002)(www.carlos-bernardo.com). Nous avions eu l’unique chance de partager le même Maître au Théâtre du Soleil (troupe de théâtre de grande renommée). Le nom de ce Maître est Jean-Jacques Lemêtre, un musicien et compositeur reconnu dans le monde international du théâtre. Aussi, la collaboration entre Carlos et moi a été enrichi par les études que nous avions fait en musique traditionnelle coréenne; Carlos ayant étudier neuf mois de tambours avec un maître en France, et moi ayant étudié trois mois à Séoul avec un maître de chant traditionnelle!
Des expériences exceptionnelles comme celles-ci ont façonné l’unique son et qualité de notre musique : « roots » traditionnels du Pérou et du Brésil, mélangés de manière élégante et intense avec l’essence du Jazz, du Blues, et du Soul. . .
. . . Et dans rien de moins que quatre langues : anglais, français, espagnol, et portugais!
INTENTION :
De jouer dans tout le Canada, et faire partie du circuit de festivals de Jazz et de Folk, ainsi que de jouer sur les scènes les plus importantes de la musique.
De jouer en première partie pour des artistes plus reconnus.
De promouvoir mon album ici au Canada, ainsi qu’ailleurs.
D’offrir des concerts à Paris, Berlin, Londres, et à d’autres centres culturels d’Europe.
De jouer à Séoul, en Corée du Sud et de voyager à d’autres pays d’Asie.
De continuer à faire de la musique!
