"Patrick Boyle is a 'trumpet personality'"

"Patrick Boyle is a 'trumpet personality', which isn't an easy thing
to do. And what I mean is that Patrick's trumpet voice is a character
that talks, feels, emotes and resonates with listeners. Like I said,
it's not easy to make a trumpet do that... and that's why Patrick is
so special." Tim Tamashiro, Host, Tonic, CBC Radio 2 - Tim Tamashiro, Host, Tonic, CBC Radio 2

"Patrick Boyle breathes new life into the trumpe"

"Patrick has a sharp wit, a round tone, and a wide-open musical sensibility. His music is filled with playfulness, humour, intelligence, and light. Think Dave Douglas meets Yes meets The Chieftains over a few shots of Newfoundland Screech and a good time was had by all. Patrick Boyle breathes new life into the trumpet, teaching it to sing Celtic reels and African chants as if it was born to do so."

Andy Sheppard, CBC Radio After Hours - CBC Radio After Hours

"Still No Word is Patrick Boyle's best work yet!"

Still No Word is Patrick Boyle's best work yet! Long heralded as one of
Canada's top sidemen, it's a delight to see (and hear) him step out on
his own for the second time. With a more focused, linear outing than his
previous work, Boyle has solidified his status as one of Canada's top
trumpet players and jazz musicians in general.

The first time I popped in his record, I remember I had just returned
from watching Patrick do his usual, sideman thing; and I expected to go
home, put on a track, go to bed and listen to the rest of it the next
day. Needless to say, I ended up so enraptured in the music, that I
stayed up half the night listening to the record in its entirety. \

Joined by some of Canada's best as his backing band, the instrumental
interplay is staggeringly good at times. Given Patrick's academic
background in theories of improvisation, it's no surprise that some of
the best moments of the record are where Patrick is able to use all his
knowledge and really blow on a tune.

While 'Hold Out' was a great romp in the musically schizophrenic world
of Boyle, 'Still No Word' will no doubt cement Boyle's status as one of
Canada's great Jazz Players.

"Each performance sounds like a conversation with the audience"

Listening to Patrick, you hear much more than a guy who can play. You hear a musical personality at work. Each performance sounds like a conversation with the audience, one that renews itself every time he picks up the instrument. - Jaime Fitzpatrick, The Performance Hour, CBC Radio
