Bio

Patsy Thompson- a passionate and dynamic entertainer and songwriter.

What matters is that Canadian Singer - Songwriter Patsy Thompson is working hard at what she loves to do, and whether in Canada or abroad, audiences will only be the better for it. She made her way to Texas and spent over a decade carving her path, writing and playing music. Now, back in Canada, Canadian audiences can experience her rich, moving voice, raw edged rough one moment, smooth and tender the next, always dear and soulful, in songs with catchy turns of phrases and such universal themes as love, passion, life experiences, and dancing your socks off.

Her sound is a textured blend of driving beat, growly blues with a bit of Canada's airy accent, molded by the influence of musicians she loves: Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Irma Thomas, and Lucinda Williams , to name a few.

She has a blend of rocker, cowgirl, Joplin-ish: finger rings, short skirts, boots, dĂŠcolletage. On stage, she is a powerhouse, passionate, purposeful, and always personal.

While in college, she and Wailin' Walker and the House Rockers made Rock'n'Roll music and blues for biker dances and parties around British Columbia until Thompson felt it was time to do her own thing. She put together a band, The Patsy Thompson Band, and the lot went on the road. Across Canada they played, in good spots, and the no-so-good, but always having fun. And learning. And Crafting.

Texans got their first taste of Patsy in 1992 when she played at the famous South-By-Southwest Festival in Austin.

Her first CD "Rainbows Follow Rainy Days" was released in Canada in 1993 contained 10 songs. She continued touring to support it's release and quickly became one of western Canada's hottest acts.

Patsy went to Nashvile and recorded a 6 song LP called The Thunder Under Her, an album that shows her ability to write
and rock out country music.

Then it was off to Texas where she has found a home in Austin and recorded her third CD at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Recording Studio. The CD, entitled "Make Me Crazy" included seven brand new Patsy Thompson originals.

Patsy's fourth self titled CD, focuses more on her songwriting and is some of her best work yet. The CD features seven new original songs, two Willie Nelson Classics, One written by Jody Payne, Red Lane, & Hank Cochran, and a remake of Lucinda Williams' "Lines Around Your Eyes". Willie Nelson joins Patsy here on this album lending his guitar playing on a couple tracks.

Passion, released in 2007 was produced by Patsy with help from the late David Zettner, along with Bobby Mac and Matt Hubbard. It explores a more jazz and salsa groove, without losing her signatue sound. It is comprised of 11 tracks recorded in part at Willie Nelson's Luck Studios and Fire Station Studios in San Marcos TX.

Musical guest's on the record include on guitars Boomer Norman (Stop The Truck and Mau Mau Chaplains) and Bobby Mack (Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Doyle Bramhall, Lou Ann Barton). Brandon Aly (Edie Brickell and New Bohemians) on drums. Brad Houser (Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, Boom Box) on saxaphones and clarinet. Joel Guzman (Los Lobos, Joe Ely, Wayne Hancock) on accordian. Don Raby (Stop The Truck, Dale Watson) on fiddle. Matt Hubbard on keyboards and the late great David Zettner on bass.

Patsy's latest work, created in Vancouver BC, 2011, is 3 new singles, Joy Ride, No Ordinary Day, and I Get Along. This work gives listeners the insight on just how fun and versatile her writing is. I Get Along, a fast paced song about getting along no matter what, was placed in a reality show called Dussault Inc. Episode 1011. Stay tuned for more exciting music and entertainment from Patsy Thompson
