Bio
Backed up by her band, the singer who actually is on tour to launch her new CD Sinceramente presents in this show sambas by the masters, which are part of her life: Enredo do meu Samba (Dona Ivone Lara/Jorge Aragão); Deixa isso pra lá, immortalized by the gentle voice of Jair Rodrigues, (Edson Menezes and Alberto Paes), É com esse que eu vou (Pedro Caetano), A sorrir (Cartola), Bicho do mato, País Tropical (Jorge Benjor), Coisinha do Pai (Jorge Aragão/ Almir Guineto/ Luiz Carlos) and Bebo sim (Elizeth Cardoso), amongst others masters like: Martinho da Vila, Paulinho da Viola and Jovelina Pérola Negra. Of course there are also musics of her own repertory, including the new hit Tirou Onda (Arlindo Cruz), and Meu Guarda Chuva (Jorge Ben), É isso aí (Sidnei Muller) and Mangueira (Seu Jorge).
The name of and the idea for the show are a response to the awesome receptivity of the public to some of these songs in her concerts, besides her passion for the samba and her musical versatility.
A new samba gives the essence and unity to the show. The singer expresses also her musical cauldron, adding to it rhythms like bossa-nova, neobossa, soul, swing, funk and samba-rock, everything full of strength and swing.
The first season of Sambachic was at the club Ébano Bar, in São Paulo. It was an absolute success of public!!
More about Paula Lima:
Paula Lima, the diva of swing, started in the music world with a group called Unidade Bop (ex- Unidade Móvel) that played acid jazz. After that, she did backing vocals for Jorge Ben Jor (album 23, 1993), sang in the hit parade Senhor Tempo Bom of the rap duo Thaíde and DJ Hum, took part in the Zomba group and finally became the singer of Funk Como Le Gusta, a Brazilian black music group, in which she stood out singing a new version of Meu guarda-chuva (Ben Jor's musical lyric from the time he was just Ben).
In 2001 she launched her first solo CD by Regata Records: É isso ai. After two years, Universal Music launched a beautiful CD named Paula Lima. Nowadays she is in a tour with Sinceramente, her third album, now by Indie Records. The repertory, which she carefully picked and chose, have new songs by Seu Jorge, Ana Carolina, Zélia Duncan and Mart'nália (success on the radio with the hit Novos Alvos), Arlindo Cruz, Leci Brandão and others from MPB.
This work was made with such care and affection, that it is considered now one of the best CDs launched in 2006/2007. The album was launched in April, in Japan and it was immediately on the cover of the magazine Latina. The CD will be released during this year in Mexico, Porto Rico and the US.
The singer was twice nominated for the Prêmio Tim de Música 2007 (an award granted by the cell phone carrier Tim) and also received a nomination for the Prêmio Toddy (another Brazilian award) as the best MPB album. And not only that, she was also awarded with the Raça Negra trophy in 2006 as the best female singer.
Paula shook the carnival of Salvador with five concerts at Camarote Oceania and drove her fans into frenzy. She invited three great and unexpected partners: Marcelo D2, Nasi and Toni Garrido.
She performed recently with Seu Jorge in the show Grandes Encontros at the Eldorado radio station. This event was a great success of public, surpassing 8 thousand listeners.
She recently started a partnership with the group Afro Reggae, performing three concerts in the second edition of Antídoto International Seminar of Cultural Actions in conflict zones, a project funded by Itaú Cultural. These concerts will become a DVD to be released in 2008.
In January of 2008, the singer starts to record her first solo DVD Solo to be released in the same year.
She was invited by the great idol of Bossa Nova João Donato to share with him the stage and his songs. And recently Paula has started a surprising partnership with Frejat and Toni Garrido, showing all her eclectic musical amplitude. Recently Paula had a little tour in Angola, with the complete band, in an event called Belas Divas, to honor the great female persons in the history of that country. In the occasion, she did a duet with the countrys President and was the only Brazilian in the event.
I'm that black girl who grew up willing to change the world and believing in it. And I try to perform my mission with my music and an open heart. says Paula
