Irish guitarist, singer and songwriter Paul Casey unravels modern guitar styles with upbeat grooves and rootsy sounds. Infectious riffs, intricate rhythms and intimate vocals are hallmarks of his two new albums, and his live DVD, recorded at Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

Biography

Northern Ireland guitarist, singer and songwriter Paul Casey has just finished recording his third album in two years, with stunning collection of songs brought together in ‘Blow Away The Clouds’.

Following hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed ‘Songs In Open Tuning’ (2005), Casey wrote and recorded ‘Slow Water, presenting nine stunning new tracks that switch effortlessly from lavish string arrangements to raw acoustic songs and from pop-rock anthems to unflinchingly catchy choruses. Add Casey’s foot-tapping riffs, his distinctive voice and a gospel choir (!), and you’ve got a remarkable and timeless collection. Without delay, he has now put together another fine collection in ‘Blow Away The Clouds’. The two albums are due for release on the same day in early 2008.

Included with Slow Water is a beautifully shot DVD of the Derry musician’s recent show at Symphony Hall Birmingham.

Casey recently completed shooting the video for ‘Stay’, a track off Slow Water, with young New York director Will Colby. And the filming wasn’t without incident; on the second day of shooting Casey found himself submerged in a large tank of water – with six sharks!

With ‘Slow Water’, Casey unravels modern guitar styles with upbeat grooves, while never straying from rootsy rhythms and sounds. With ‘Blow Away The Clouds’ the more tender side of Casey voice comes to the fore, while the catchy riffs are ever-present.

Whether fusing infectious riffs with intricate rhythms or drawing on musical snapshots of legendary guitarists, Casey creates a unique and distinctive sound throughout these two new album, and the live DVD.

Born in Co. Derry, Northern Ireland, Paul Casey displays an exceptional command of slide guitar and a unique flair for penning striking tunes. He has been compared to artists from David Gray to Damien Rice, Dave Matthews to Ben Harper, Gomez to Ryan Adams. In truth, however, Paul Casey is an individual who makes up his own rules and carves his own niche when song-writing and recording.

On the live scene, Casey is very much at home playing with full band and slide guitar to the fore and draws from the past and present to offer a unique and rare experience. The unassuming Casey has performed on the same bill with artists such as Van Morrison, the John Butler Trio, Damien Rice and Gemma Hayes. A tireless worker, a prolific songwriter, an engaging performer, Paul Casey is a musician for fans of real music.

SHE COULD BE

Written By: Paul Casey

She could be my star, Shining in the night, Shining from a far
She could be my boat, When waves come crashing in, Keeping me afloat

What if I was a submarine,
Lost beneath the sea,
She could be my oxygen,
She could help me breath

She could be my blood running through my veins, feeding me her love
She could be the flame dancing in the fire, taking away my pain

What if I was a submarine,
Lost beneath the sea,
She could be my oxygen,
She could help me breath

She could be my sea, Wherever I return, She'd be there with me
She could be my blood, Running through my veins, Feeding me her love

What if I was a submarine,
Lost beneath the sea,
She could be my oxygen,
She could help me breath (x2)

WEIGHT

Written By: Paul Casey

Feel the weight on my eyes, making me blind
Feel the weight on my shoulders

I spend my days walking, talking to no-one, meeting people I never see
Spend my days counting the waves in my head, drowning me
Feel the weight on my eyes, making me blind
Feel the weight on my shoulders

And every day throws another puzzle, solutions we're destined to find
And so my friends I don't know all the answers but I promise to do all I can
Feel the weight on my eyes, making me blind
Feel the weight on my shoulders

And so I watch everything from my windscreen and I feel safer when I'm in my car
Moving in every direction, never getting very far
Feel the weight on my eyes, making me blind
Feel the weight on my shoulders

Memories that remain like nicotine
Faces I don't want to see
I got friends with modern life routines, read one too many magazines
Feel the weight on my eyes, making me blind
Feel the weight on my shoulders

WE WILL SING

Written By: Paul Casey

I'd love to hear you, I love to hear you sing
You gave me words, words to fill my brain
You gave me hope, you gave me everything
Things I hadn't, no I hadn't got before

I wish you'd stayed, stayed for a while
You made me laugh, Yeah love, you made me smile
The night it fell and it smuggled you away
Tears I cried, for I wish, I wish you'd stayed

Come back, come back yeah and sing your song
We'll sing together, we will sing, we will sing all night long
Sing together, We will sing all night long
Sing together, We'll sing all night long…

THANKS FOR LETTING ME CRASH

Written By: Paul Casey

Thanks for letting me crash, my head was spinning so fast
I've got people staring at me, but they don't see what I see
I got silver walls around me, I got bubbles on my windscreen,
But thanks for letting me crash

There's nothing coming at me, it's like living in the movies
My eyes are coming down on me, but I'm so blind that I see
I got silver walls around me, I got bubbles on my windscreen,
But thanks for letting me crash, oh yeah…

We step outside, into the night sky
The stars they hypnotise, my body feels terrorised
I got silver walls around me, I got bubbles on my windscreen,
But thanks for letting me crash

This road is coming fast, and I'm wondering how long will it last
I got silver walls around me, I got bubbles on my windscreen,
These mountains stand before me, thanks for letting me carsh, oh yeah,

Oh yeah, Thanks for letting me crash, yeah yeah, thanks for letting me crash
Oh yeah, Thanks for letting me crash….

DREAMING 'BOUT MARY

Written By: Paul Casey

I spend my days dreaming 'bout Mary, In the afternoon glaze
Spend my days dreaming 'bout Mary, I've been counting down the days

And she tells me that it's alright, She whispers in my dreams
Her smile is still the same now, Same as it's always been, Like it's never changed

I spend my days dreaming 'bout Mary, In the afternoon glaze
Spend my days dreaming 'bout Mary, I've been counting down my days

And she tells me that it's alright, It's like her arms around me
And I wish we were together now, Just like we always had been, Like it's never changed

I spend my days dreaming 'bout Mary, In the afternoon glaze
Spend my day dreaming 'bout Mary, I've been counting down my days

And she dances through my daydreams, Her eyes smiling on me, yeah
And I wish we were together now, Same as it always had been, like it's never gonna change

I spend my days dreaming 'bout Mary, In the afternoon glaze
Spend my day dreaming 'bout Mary, I've been counting down my days

CLIMB

Written By: Paul Casey

Standing on my own two feet, Waiting my turn
Hey, you know it's cold outside, Among the freezing snowflakes

New York 's lights are shining bright, Brighter than the world tonight
Red tails for a million miles, Don't you let me fall,
'Cos I wanna Climb…

The noise of petrol engines breathing, The shuffling of feet
The way the hours spend my minutes, I'm just trying to get some sleep
I wanna climb… climb….

New York 's fast, Baby, Am I last Baby?
Don't you let me fall, Baby, Don't you let me fall
I wanna climb.,. climb

Standing on my own two feet, Back at the start again
Won't you hold my hand out Baby, Get me through this maze of streets
'Cos I wanna climb…climb…
