Bio

Northern Ireland guitarist, singer and songwriter Paul Casey has just finished recording his third album in two years, with stunning collection of songs brought together in ‘Blow Away The Clouds’.

Following hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed ‘Songs In Open Tuning’ (2005), Casey wrote and recorded ‘Slow Water, presenting nine stunning new tracks that switch effortlessly from lavish string arrangements to raw acoustic songs and from pop-rock anthems to unflinchingly catchy choruses. Add Casey’s foot-tapping riffs, his distinctive voice and a gospel choir (!), and you’ve got a remarkable and timeless collection. Without delay, he has now put together another fine collection in ‘Blow Away The Clouds’. The two albums are due for release on the same day in early 2008.

Included with Slow Water is a beautifully shot DVD of the Derry musician’s recent show at Symphony Hall Birmingham.

Casey recently completed shooting the video for ‘Stay’, a track off Slow Water, with young New York director Will Colby. And the filming wasn’t without incident; on the second day of shooting Casey found himself submerged in a large tank of water – with six sharks!

With ‘Slow Water’, Casey unravels modern guitar styles with upbeat grooves, while never straying from rootsy rhythms and sounds. With ‘Blow Away The Clouds’ the more tender side of Casey voice comes to the fore, while the catchy riffs are ever-present.

Whether fusing infectious riffs with intricate rhythms or drawing on musical snapshots of legendary guitarists, Casey creates a unique and distinctive sound throughout these two new album, and the live DVD.

Born in Co. Derry, Northern Ireland, Paul Casey displays an exceptional command of slide guitar and a unique flair for penning striking tunes. He has been compared to artists from David Gray to Damien Rice, Dave Matthews to Ben Harper, Gomez to Ryan Adams. In truth, however, Paul Casey is an individual who makes up his own rules and carves his own niche when song-writing and recording.

On the live scene, Casey is very much at home playing with full band and slide guitar to the fore and draws from the past and present to offer a unique and rare experience. The unassuming Casey has performed on the same bill with artists such as Van Morrison, the John Butler Trio, Damien Rice and Gemma Hayes. A tireless worker, a prolific songwriter, an engaging performer, Paul Casey is a musician for fans of real music.
