Paul Child Band

We're so impressed with this Band that we are appealling for venues to bring them up to play in Manchester..

Songwriter Paul Child, a casino and bar worker in London in 2008, made friends with local session musician and teacher Jim Maving. Maving convinced Child, usually reserved and reluctant to play in front of people, to lay down a rough demo of the songs he had written. The pair developed the ideas that Paul had conceived and took them to another local musician, keyboard player Mike Wesson. Wesson then arranged some studio time and the trio went and recorded the first demo of Paul’s work. Maving hoped that he could use the recording as a way of attracting other musicians to come and perform in the studio for Paul.

Next approached was 20 year old drum prodigy Tommy Bates who after hearing the initial first demo agreed to some studio time to record an EP with Paul. Using session players to fill the final two vital roles of bass guitar and violin the then "make shift" band found themselves in the studio recording Paul's five track debut EP ‘a little room inside.' The project was produced by Reading based producer Damon Sawyer.

Released as a free online download, the EP gained a dedicated following of supporters, with people generally not being able to pigeon hole exactly what style or genre it would be categorized as. Paul’s music seems to be neither mainstream, nor alternative but something a little different. - Manchester Gossip
