Paul Dateh is definitely not new to music. When his parents discovered that he had the gift of perfect pitch at age four, it became undeniable that he would grow to become a truly talented individual. “People would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I immediately told them that I wanted to be a musician,” says Dateh, “It didn’t matter whether I was playing, singing, composing… as long as it was music, I wanted to do it.” Now, though only twenty one years old, the Los Angeles native is living up to his word. Truly well-rounded, Paul Dateh is a self-contained musical powerhouse. From songwriting to singing, playing keyboards to playing violin, or arranging to producing, it seems there is nothing this young musician can’t do. But when asked about his multi-talented abilities, Dateh still replies with a childlike laugh, “There are plenty of things I still can’t do. There are so many sides to music-making that I have yet to learn. No matter what, I’ll always be growing.” There are many sides to Dateh’s own music as well. Armed with fourteen years of Classical training in violin and an undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California, Dateh strives to write music that incorporates many different musical influences. From old school hip hop beats in the style of “Tribe Called Quest,” to impressive improvisatory licks ala Clifford Brown, to complex chords and fresh harmonic progressions, Paul Dateh’s music is rich with soul and thriving with energy. Now, Dateh is determined and ready to branch out on his own as a solo artist in the music entertainment industry. Though he is young, his goals and priorities are clear: “No matter what, I am a musician first and always will be. I will always continue to make music with all my heart and soul.”
