"Paulette addresses sexual abuse in 'Dead in Deh'"

Singer Paulette Santana is concerned about the frequent reports of sexual abuse among the country's youth, specifically young girls.

Her concerns are documented in her latest single Dead In Deh. The song was produced by Bruce Shand for 1Family Music Inc.

"The song came about based on what I saw happening in my country as it relates to the amount of reported incidents of child abuse," said Santana.

A video has been released for the song and it has been in heavy rotation on local cable stations.

Santana is from Resource in Manchester. The 24 year-old had no interest in music until last year.

The former Bishop Gibson high student was influenced by friends to try modelling, but ended up pursuing a career as a hairstylist.

"I was encouraged to try modelling because of my height. But hairdressing is what I do professionally. It was just last year that I decided to get into music," she explained.

Last year, she recorded her first single Your Majesty, which was produced by 1Family Music.

Santana is encouraged by the response and feedback to Dead In Deh. She plans to release the follow-up singles Undercover and Not Over You in coming months. - The Jamaica Star
