Paul Fogarty

Paul Fogarty

BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

Natural-born songwriter and singer, has written 700+ songs, in cross-over genres drawing from folk, country, roots, blues, pop and jazz. One foot in the Neil Young mold, the other in Bob Dylan's. Brilliant and fresh, lyrical and melodic. Increasing airplay on Australian FM radio. A keeper.

Biography

Paul: "My songs are like short movies, shot in black and white to keep the stories and melodies in focus and up front. Sure they come from a personal and intimate place but its a universal place so anyone can relate to it. The songs are never so beige or pastel that the message gets drowned. I open up my mind and my soul and then the heart of the song has the nerve to come flooding out."

Daddy Come Home

Daddy Come Home
© Paul Fogarty 1998

He’s been sittin’ on the back porch of his life
for many a wasted year
He never knew how to love a woman
He never knew how to shed a tear
He always said you could not see the flies on him
But you could see where they had been
And he’d carve a hole in a mountain-side
Just to show you something you had never seen
Daddy come home, don’t take your life away
Daddy come home, Momma cry herself to sleep every day
Daddy come home, we don’t mind, we don’t mind being poor
Daddy come home, we miss you now and forever more

He’s been sitting on the back porch of his life for many a wasted day
He’d rise before the angels pulling plough from the back of old Bay
He’d rest only when the resting good
And the rain too far away
And he cut a lonely silhouette in the sky at the end of every day
Daddy come home, don’t take your life away
Daddy come home, Momma cry herself to sleep every day
Daddy come home, we don’t mind, we don’t mind being poor
Daddy come home, we miss you now and forever more

Oh we miss you now, we miss you now,
We miss you now, we miss you now, we miss you now

He’s been sitting on the back porch of his life,
just resting wasting time
He never knew how to tell his children
he could not look them in the eye
And he sunk down in a river of shame
he always tried to find his feet
And we watched the dirty water fill his eyes
with the poison of defeat
Daddy come home, don’t take your life away
Daddy come home, Momma cry herself to sleep every day
Daddy come home, we don’t mind, we don’t mind being poor
Daddy come home, we miss you now and forever more

The Flip Flop Song

The Flip Flop Song

Yeah she roll like thunder, sleep like rain
I don’t ever wanna be without her again
She go flip flop walking on her heavenly stair
Nobody understand and she, she don’t care
She don’t care…
She caress the sky, make the day begin
She put me back together again
She go flip flop walking on a heavenly stair
Nobody understand and she, she don’t care
She don’t care, she don’t care, she don’t care
She make her own decision, that’s her way
She got a secret mission make a brighter day
She go flip flop walking on her heavenly stair
Nobody understand and she, she don’t care…
She caress the sky make the day begin
She put me back together again
She go flip flop walkin’ on a heavenly stair
Nobody understand and she don’t care
She don’t care, I say she don’t care, I say she don’t care
She don’t care, she don’t care…
Oh she roll like thunder
She sleep like rain
I don’t ever want
Be without her again
She don’t care, she don’t care,
I say she don’t care… she don’t care…
she don’t care… she don’t care

Stay

Stay
© Paul Fogarty 1998

Why don’t you stay,
well make yourself feel right at home
and stay…
We don’t have to talk too long
Stay here, stay here…
I don’t ever want to be alone
And you don’t ever have to be alone

Drop your cares and woes and come inside
Listen to the whisper of your wounded child, darlin’…
Drop your barriers now, drop your denial
Higher voices beckon us to rest for a while

Baby now stay,
light the candle,
draw the shade
and stay …
Forgive me for my bed’s unmade
Stay here, stay ….I don’t ever want to be alone

Drop your cares and woes and come inside
Listen to the whisper of your wounded child, darlin’…
Pickin’ up the pieces of my misspent youth
I’m so over tellin’ lies just to glimpse the truth…

Baby now stay, light the candle, draw the shade and stay
forgive me for my bed's unmade,
Stay....stay....you don't ever have to be alone, no we don't ever have to be alone, child, we don't ever have to be alone...
Stay....
Stay....
Why don't you stay...
