Love Come Tumbling Down

Written By: Paul Garner

I’ve got an autumn
Heart that’s turning
Orange, yellow, red and brown
I’ll come falling
Down to you babe
Each time the wheel turns around
Once I had
A little bluebird
How she loved to sing
I held her up
Just to feel the sun
And she spread her new found wings

Love came tumbling down
Love came tumbling down
Love came tumbling down
Love came tumbling...

Now we all live on
Different islands
Cast our hopes into the wind
Every year we’re
A little stranger
And a little thicker skinned
All that flies
So full of life
All the birds and bees
Across the night
And the starry skies
Come floating in on the breeze

Love come tumbling down
Love come tumbling down
Love come tumbling down
Love come tumbling...

I see you babe
In that pretty colour
Your new season’s clothes
I feel it tingling
In my fingers
And way down in my toes
Stand by me ‘til our
Roots get tangled
Down beneath the common ground
I’ll be here just to
Catch all your goodness
Each time your…

Love comes tumbling down
Love comes tumbling down
Love comes tumbling down
Love comes tumbling...

Oh come on babe
Won’t you bring your love down
Won’t you bring your
Love tumbling down
On me

Mosquito Coil

Written By: Paul Garner

Our love was like a
Mosquito coil burning
In a rusty old tin can
Morning dew came and
Put the spark out and I
Held it there in my hand

You came to me like
A prayer call at sunset
Pulled me in to your spin
Now whatever end
That we make from this
I know that we’ll meet again

Well the future
Sure is cloudy
Just like this cup of palm wine
But I don’t drink to
Forget you darling
Just ‘cause you’re always on my mind

You came to me like
A prayer call at sunset
Pulled me in to your spin
Now whatever end
That we make from this
Sure been a beautiful thing

For you it’s like a
Re-occurring dream and
This is just another scene
You can come and
You can go and
You can dance in-between

You came to me like
A prayer call at sunset
Pulled me in to your spin
Now whatever end
We make from this
I know that we’ll meet again

For me this is my
One and only stand
I’ve got to see what I can
While the walls come
Tumbling down
And we sink into the sand

You came to me like
A prayer call at sunset
Pulled me in to your spin
Now whatever end
We make from this
Something new will soon begin

Hope In The Girl

Written By: Paul Garner

I dial her number just to
Listen to her breathe
Yawn and tuck her hair
There behind her ear
I want to see her sparkle
I want to see her sweat
I want to see if she’s got me
All figured out just yet

It’s in her now
It’s in her now
It’s in her now
All my hope is in... the girl

Feeling for warm virtues
In the chill of the night
Back-streets and theatre seats
Always the twilight
All your roses and your ochre
And your gut-string violins
Are so urgent like my purpose
Pressed here between our skin

It’s in her now
It’s in her now
It’s in her now
All my hope is in... the girl

Spring has sprung new business
In the markets of the soil
The sun brings out new life
Which one day will be oil
For our black gold hearts
To circulate and wonder
If we cheated fate
Or only stole her thunder

It’s in her now
It’s in her now
It’s in her now
All my hope is in
All my hope is in
All my hope is in... the girl

Smooth Operator

Written By: Paul Garner

I’m a smooth operator
In a bullet-proof vest
You can’t touch me baby
I’ve got nowhere to rest
Got your stain on my collar
And your grit there in my eye
These memories of you, babe
You never kissed me goodbye

I left my car at the airport
And started roaming the streets
With a guitar in my pocket
And horseshoes on my feet
In the rubble of the past
I was just digging for a groove
When I heard that south of the border
They’re closer to the truth

Did I see it in your eye?
Did I see it in your eye?
I keep on chasing
That same old mirage

There’s soup in the kitchen,
Breadcrumbs laying on the floor,
Machines in the basement
Won’t you close that door
And every absolute
Must contain its exception
We’re just dancing in the mirror
With our hidden reflections

Did I see it in your eye?
Did I see it in your eye?
I keep on chasing
That same old mirage

And you can’t trust anybody
When you’re on the run
But it’s right here baby
On the tip of my tongue
Will you steal my heart?
Will you cut off my hands?
Will you leave me burning
On the desert sand?

Did I see it in your eye?
Did I see it in your eye?
I keep on chasing
That same old mirage
Did I see it in your eye?
Did I see it in your eye?
Did I see it in your eye?

Guest House Blues

Written By: Paul Garner

I’ve got a crazy woman
Just like my best friend
Everything is energy you know
It comes round again
I’ve got an elbow in my ribs
I’ve got the Spanish flu
I’ve got nothing but dirty laundry
And these old guest house blues

Well I don’t know where we’re going
But I know where we stand
By these footprints glowing
Like stars in the sand
I’ve got eveything I need, right here,
Not a whole lot left to lose
Since I found myself
With the guest house blues

I’ve got the guest house blues
I’ve got the guest house blues
I’m just stuck here like the rest of you
Until my visa comes through

Well you can’t stay forever
You just end up by yourself
And if you stay too long you
Become someone else and
Don’t you say you’re still my friend
If this is what you choose
Just let me be, darling,
With these guest house blues

I’ve got the guest house blues
I’ve got the guest house blues
I’m just stuck here like the rest of you
Until my visa comes through

You can go up to the roof
If you want to get real high
There ain’t no-one up here
Just the big old lonesome sky
In the hallway there’s an altar
Where you’re supposed to leave your shoes
But it’s you I’m leaving baby
For the guest house blues

It’s you I’m leaving baby
For the guest house blues
But it’s you I’m leaving baby
For the guest house blues

Silver Bullet

Written By: Paul Garner

Well they’re out there
Roaming the streets
What’s that you say man?
You don’t believe?
But of course that’s why
Everything’s so ruined
Don’t worry baby
That’s just a flesh wound...

A shop-front window
The autumn collection
I saw a man
With no reflection
Then a girl came out
She was nineteen years old
Brushed past my hand
But her skin was cold

Silver bullet
Silver bullet
Whistle on home
We all need a desire...
To call our own

Well this blood of mine
That I give to you
Hush now baby
It might do you good
Yeah, I know the doctor
He’s one of them
Just try and sleep, baby,
I’m going out again
And I won’t be back
Until I find a cure
I know it won’t be easy
Nothing left is pure
Except our love
Our broken hearted love
I don’t care about the dead
It’s you and me I’m thinking of

Silver bullet
Silver bullet
Whistle on home
We all need a desire...
To call our own

Yeah they’re out there
Roaming the streets
What’s that you say man?
You don’t believe...
What’s that you say man?
You don’t believe...

Havana Brown

Written By: Paul Garner

Some walk on water for so long
They lose sight of land
Some have never seen the sea
I’m drying out on the sand
I’ve more than got my feet wet
I’ve been stung by jellyfish
So before you dive in babe
You’d better make a wish

Life is like those waters
It ebbs and flows
What colour will you see, babe,
Looking up from below?
I’ve got a little rowboat
Her name’s Havana Brown
And I’m going to load her up
With all the good things I’ve found

Well it’s a tea-chest full of stories
Faded maps, quite a horde
I tied them to my ankle
And I threw them overboard
Now I swim through broken meters
And notes bent out of reach
All these long-bottled messages
Just waiting for a beach

Don’t you think too much
Baby, don’t you try to breathe
You have to see the shipwreck
Oh, before you leave
Unsinkable they said
Floating high above the waves
To the sound of beating drums
Manned by silent slaves

Don’t think too much
And don’t you try to breathe
Just join the traffic
Down here on the reef

Should Have Thought Twice

Written By: Paul Garner

Baby your words
Don’t mean the same any more
Your sweet little words
Don’t mean the same any more
You say that you still love me
But it sounds like I’ve got to let you go

You know I’m hurting baby
Way down, deep inside
You know I’m hurting baby
Way down, deep inside
Because the part you brought to life
That’s the part of me that just died

You thought of me once now baby
Girl, you really should have thought twice You thought of me once now baby
Girl, you really should have thought twice
And a third time for good luck
When you looked into his eyes

The first time was the right time
We all get a second chance
And a third time for good luck
When you looked into
His eyes

The Eagles

Written By: Paul Garner

They came to town with a
TV truck
But no one thought that they were
Up to much
Who’s that knocking
On your front door?
First goes your mind and then
Itt’s the law
I guess that’s the
Price of safety
And haven’t all the prices
Gone up lately?
We’ve turned forests to
Paper shanties
And my heart runs on
Lithium batteries

The eagles are coming
Spread their golden wings
The eagles are coming
Don’t let them take you in

I thought they’d protect me
And my baby
But I found the truth in a
Black Mercedes
Give me junk mail and
Foreign wine
Give me my credit card
And just a little more time
They’ve got friends in
Such low places
Twisting arms and
Turning faces
The hand that’s holding your
Head underwater
Is your own man
Just following orders

The eagles are coming
Spread their golden wings
The eagles are coming
Spread their golden wings

The eagles are coming
The eagles are coming
Don’t let them take you
Don’t let them in
Don’t let them take you in
