Paul Hammer, 21 year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, grew up in Carmel, New York watching his father, pianist/composer Jan Hammer write, perform, and produce his own records. Years later, Paul has put similar skills to use on his own, playing all the instruments on his recordings as a singer/songwriter. He has become a regular at NYC venues The Bitter End, Sidewalk Café, CB’s Gallery, and Bua while touring throughout Upstate New York, Long Island, and New Jersey.
After two years of touring his debut album “19” throughout the Northeast and touring the entire East Coast as lead guitarist for The District, Paul has spent Fall 2005 recording his follow-up album, which will be released in January 2006.
“My debut showcased my ambition, but after touring and playing in different bands, this new album will reflect my experience as a live performer as well as a songwriter and producer,” says Paul. With a lyrically and musically more mature album to promote, a car, and a guitar on his back, Paul will hit the road in 2006 to sing his stories to new audiences as often as possible. His recent musical influences, Elliot Smith, James Mercer, and Devendra Banhart, illustrate a roadmap for his career. “I really just want to live the life of a musician. Collaborating, touring, experimenting with new sounds… I can’t imagine stopping, ever.”
