Lyrics

The Wall / Remember Me

Written By: Paul Hickey

Background: There is a memorial in Brooklyn, New York to the First Responders who were lost at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Although the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance (The Wall) is only half finished, it should be completed by next year (2008). This song is dedicated to those who “answered the call” but never returned.

The Wall / Remember Me

Chorus:
Standin’ like statues against The Wall
People of courage who gave their all
Those flaming Towers were their last
Now God Himself holds them fast

No one knew that fateful day
That they would fly into harm’s way
At the firehouse, they joked and laughed
Sat down to eat a meal - their last

They ran to the Towers, rang the alarm
Helping those people escape from harm
New York’s Bravest – red engines they ride
New York’s Finest – silver shields of pride

BRIDGE

Standing there in horror
We watched those Towers fall
From the burning rubble
Some men heard the call
The call to something greater
To rise above it all
That’s when the torch was lit
They had to build The Wall

They carried this torch deep in their hearts
It burned like fire and made them start
To build The Wall to honor these men
To make New York feel whole again

We see their faces, etched there in stone
We’ll visit often, they’re not alone
At the ball park by the sea
They seem to say – “Remember me.”

Chorus:
Standin’ like statues against The Wall
People of courage who gave their all
Those flaming Towers were their last
Now God Himself holds them fast

The job’s not done, it won’t be over
Until we honor every soldier
Who gave their life and answered “the call”
We’ll see their faces upon The Wall

It’s been 6 years - Lord, I don’t know why
But every day I still want to cry
For those men and women who gave their all
We’ll see their faces upon this Wall

Chorus: (this time sung with a strong finish)
Standin’ like statues against The Wall
People of courage who gave their all
Those flaming Towers were their last
Now God Himself holds them fast

And Forever

Written By: Paul Hickey

Background: A young girl is in love with her favorite baseball team (the Brooklyn Dodgers) and the players. Her father tells her that the Dodgers will always be in Brooklyn “Today, tomorrow … and forever.” Then the news comes that the Dodgers are leaving Brooklyn (1957) and going to Los Angeles. The father is angry and disappointed, and the young girl is crushed.

The young girl is Doris Kearns Goodwin, a renowned presidential scholar and author. Her only non-academic book was “Wait Till Next Year,” which was a story about her as a young girl being a fan of the old Brooklyn Dodgers. This song is dedicated to her.

…. And Forever

When you say you’ll be with me
I know our lives will always be
Together
And Forever

When you say you’ll always care
I need to know you’re always there
For now
And Forever

Chorus:
Forever seems so far away
But it starts with just a day
And time seems to pass so slow
But it’s just the way we know
Life is endless
And Forever

When you give your heart to me
I can’t help but think I see
You and me,
Forever

When I gave my heart to you
You said that you’d always be true
For now,
And Forever

Chorus:
Forever seems so far away
But it starts with just a day
And time seems to pass so slow
But it’s just the way we know
Life is endless
And Forever

And if you ever choose to leave
I know my heart cannot conceive
Life without you,
Forever

You told me “Wait Until Next Year”
I waited faithfully, my dear
But you walked away from me
Now my heart will always be
Empty, and lonely

You ripped my heart out – made me cry
You made me angry – said goodbye
I didn’t know
It would take 40 years
Before my anger
Would melt to tears
