SONG: The Wall
Written as a poem by Paul Hickey and adapted as a patriotic country ballad by the Jeremy Graham Band, The Wall was inspired by Mr. Hickey's trip to New York for a 9-11 rescuers memorial.
"I had been up to New York to visit the Wall of Remembrance in Brooklyn, in Coney Island," he said. "Every Easter they rededicate it, and I found myself up there, looking at those faces. It really fired my imagination."
Adapted by Jeremy Graham and Mike Burress, the song is a soulful ballad that incorporates bit of patriotic classics, such as The Star-spangled Banner.
"The first time I read those words, when it was still in poem form, I got chills," Mr. Graham said.
Although they clearly consider themselves a country act, the musicians in the fledgling Jeremy Graham Band have years of experience. Many of the members played in Shiloh, and others came from other Augusta acts.
"There are just all sorts of styles up there," Mr. Burress said. "You have some rockers. You have some country. You have some blues. There's just a little bit of everything."
