Lyrics

Mile Marker 58

Written By: Paul A. Knust

I'm heading home on Highway 64
This dark November night
I see the red flashing lights but I'm not prepared
For the tragic sight
The skid marks tell a silent story
About the car wrapped around the tree
That's when I come to realize
How easily it could have been me

WE CAN'T PICK OUR MOMENT
TO CLEAN UP OUR MESS AND WAIT
I HOPE THAT HE WAS READY
AT MILE MARKER 58

Don't know why I'm worried 'bout someone
I didn't even know
'Cause it was me that left her crying
A couple hours ago
Words can be a brutal weapon
And cause the greatest pain
Gotta turn the car around gotta make it right
And never break her heart again

CHORUS

Mile marker 58 has taught me
Next breath could be the last
I won't have peace until I see her
Gotta step on the gas and get there fast

WE CAN'T PICK OUR MOMENT
WHEN OUR TIME WILL END
AT LEAST WITH ME THERE'S ONE GOOD THING
I WON'T BREAK HER HEART AGAIN

Let's Ride

Written By: Paul A. Knust

Everybody wants a piece of me
Life's demands just never let me be
It's a start-to-finish rat race at its worst
They can have me but they'll have to catch me first

LET'S RIDE - WE'LL BREAK THE CHAINS THEY PLACED ON ME
LET'S RIDE - WIND IN MY FACE WILL SET ME FREE

Don't think I've ever been this way before
No signs to point us back, well, that's for sure
Got an appointment to do nothing with no one
If we hurry we can catch the setting sun

CHORUS

CHORUS

Left my troubles many miles away
But I bet tomorrow there'll be hell to pay
Two days work in one will make it rough
But I'm too busy now to worry 'bout that stuff

It Is What It Is

Written By: Paul A. Knust

I GUESS IT IS WHAT IT IS
YEAH, IT IS WHAT IT IS
'CAUSE IT SURE AIN'T WHAT IT WAS

Guess it'll never be like it used to be
The big city was callin' out to me
I've replaced the sweet smell of sassafras
With traffic jams and four-bucks-a-gallon gas

I GUESS IT IS WHAT IT IS
YEAH, IT IS WHAT IT IS
'CAUSE IT SURE AIN'T WHAT IT WAS

Saturday meant a party in a neighbor's yard
I'd grab a cooler of beer and my guitar
We'd make music and laugh til the sun went down
We knew we had it good in my hometown

I GUESS IT IS WHAT IT IS
YEAH, IT IS WHAT IT IS
'CAUSE IT SURE AIN'T WHAT IT WAS

It's Monday morning, I gotta get back to the grind
Bumper to bumper, through this mass of mankind
I'll set some money aside so maybe some day
I'll see deer in the yard and smell the new-mown hay

I GUESS IT IS WHAT IT IS
YEAH, IT IS WHAT IT IS
'CAUSE IT SURE AIN'T WHAT IT WAS

Lights-Out

Written By: Paul A. Knust

LIGHTS-OUT

There's nothing I've ever seen
That compares with your eyes
Don't mean to be staring, can't help it
Must be hypnotized

DIDN'T SEE IT COMING LIKE THIS
YEA ALL IT TOOK WAS ONE KISS
PACKED A PUNCH THERE'S NO DOUBT
IN A HEARTBEAT IT WAS LIGHTS-OUT

How something so soft hits so hard
It leaves me amazed
Don't think I can shake it it's left me
All dizzy and dazed

CHORUS

SOLO

My heart is racing I'm sweating
It occurs everyday
But I've gotten used to it hope it
Doesn't go away

Young Man

Written By: Paul A. Knust

I DON'T CARE WHERE WE ARE
WHEN I GRAB MY GUITAR
I TRAVEL BACK THROUGH ALL THOSE YEARS AGAIN
YOU'RE INVITED TO COME BACK WITH ME
YOU MIGHT WONDER JUST HOW COULD THIS BE
BUT IT'S A PLACE I'LL ALWAYS BE A YOUNG MAN

Seems we've been doing this a long time
We've developed our own free kind of style
Setting up and tearing down gets harder
But the time in between makes it all worth while

CHORUS

Got my first guitar when I was thirteen
Now the hair that's left is prematurely gray
Guess you could say I've had some time to practice
It's never been better than it is today

CHORUS

Some day I just might have to put this guitar away
It's gotta wait 'cause I'm still breathing and I got the chance to play
With this kid
SOLO

CHORUS

To Whom It May Concern

Written By: Paul A. Knust

THIS GOES OUT TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
EVEN IF IT'S ONLY ME

If I could go back
And be a young man again
I'd throw out the self-doubt
And feel good in my skin
'Cause I've learned I'm a survivor
I can handle what comes my way
If only I'd known then what I know
Today

THE LONGER I LIVE THE MORE I LEARN
I'M GOOD WITH WHAT I'VE COME TO BE
THIS GOES OUT TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
EVEN IF IT'S ONLY ME

Those were hard times
That didn't have to be
It was never enough
For the expectations set for me
But I've learned I can be happy
Doesn't matter what others say
It's because of them I'm stronger
Today

Relentless

Written By: Paul A. Knust

I remember our first grade all those years ago
Hey, if it wasn't baseball, I didn't know it
It seemed like I'd see her over and over again
(I thought) this girl is a pest, why don't she give it a rest?
But she was relentless till the end

We got into high school and I'm not proud to say
Made some bad decisions 'long the way
Her parents told her over and over again
This boy's not our kind, but she had made up her mind
And she was relentless till the end

I KNOW I DIDN'T GIVE HER ANY GOOD REASON
TO THINK I'D TURN MY LIFE AROUND
DID SHE MAKE UP HER MIND THAT NOTHING COULD DEFEAT HER?
OR WAS IT BECAUSE SHE KNOWS HOW MUCH I NEED HER?
AND SHE JUST CAN'T BRING HERSELF TO LET ME DOWN?

CHORUS

The doctors have told me my time has come
The suffering and pain will soon be gone
She could have left me over and over again
But her hand's holding mine, and it's so good to find
That she was relentless till the end

This Is Gonna Be a Good Day

Written By: Paul A. Knust

INTRO

Got to work this morning, no voice mails were waiting for me
My planner says no place to go, no people to see

SOMETHING TELLS ME THIS IS GONNA BE A GOOD DAY
(THIS IS GONNA BE A GOOD DAY)
I GOT A FEELING THERE'S GOOD THINGS COMING MY WAY
(THIS IS GONNA BE A GOOD DAY)

Just got the word the boss is out of town
How can I function not being bossed around

CHORUS

This pile of work just doesn't seem to go away
Now our server's down it could be all day

SOLO

Somebody pinch me I can't believe this scene
No please don't pinch me I don't wanna wake up from this dream

It's Easy

Written By: Paul A. Knust

INTRO

I chased a job across this land
When I got out of school
Running on fumes till I got back home
For my chance to refuel

IT'S EASY WHEN YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND
IT BROUGHT ME BACK TO MY STOMPIN' GROUNDS
IT FREES ME LIKE NO PLACE ELSE I'VE FOUND
IT'S EASY WHEN YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND

I've seen things I'd have never seen
If I didn't take this road
But the weight of unfamiliarity
Is what I need to unload

CHORUS

A lot of people in my hometown
Want to ditch their dull routines
But this place brings me comfort like
My favorite pair of jeans

SOLO

I won't second-guess anyone
Who disagrees with me
I only know what I feel inside
Home is where I wanna be

CHORUS

A New Place

Written By: Paul A. Knust

The cool wind's blowin' in my face, won't punch no clock today
Put the top down, turned the radio up, I'm glad I found my way
To this stretch of road that seems to go somewhere I've never been
Hope the feelin' that I'm feelin' now will guide me here again

YOU WON'T FIND THIS PLACE MARKED ON A MAP FOR YOU
A GPS WON'T HELP AT ALL TO GET YOU HERE THAT'S TRUE
YOU NEED TO FIND THE RIGHT STATE OF MIND FOR THIS WORLD TO APPEAR
A NEW PLACE THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN HERE

I found a way day after day to add to my heavy load
Because of greed, I'd soon exceed the limit on this road
I tried to roll, I paid the tolls, but I couldn't avoid the scales
Then I pulled to the side, lightened my ride, and set off down this trail

CHORUS

I've never seen a view like this in all my livin' days
Now I know that it's been there just hidden by the haze
I finally figured out something, it's nothing too profound
I wouldn't mind sharin' it, there's plenty to go round

CHORUS

The cool wind's blowin' in my face, won't punch no clock today
Put the top down, turned the radio up, glad I found my way
