I've Got A Brick

Written By: Paul Lippert

I've got a brick
meant for your window
lying here asleep upon the floor
It's made from clay
just like my heart
baked until it's dried and still as stone

I've got a pen
paper on my table
meant to tell you where the brick came from
I wrote your name
started feeling Cain and Abel
blood was pouring off the page and on the floor

I've got my brick
I've got my pen

I've got this box
of wood and wire on my shoulder
it lifts me up and helps me through the storms
I've got my hands
they can build as well as tear down
turn a lonesome brick into a cornerstone

I've got my brick
I've got my pen
I've got this box of wood and wire
I've got my hands

I've got my voice
calling out into the morning
answering the crows that circle round
I hear the wind
whispering in the treetops
daring me to stay here on the ground

I've got my brick
I've got my pen
I've got this box of wood and wire
I've got my hands
I've got my voice
I've got my voice
I've got my voice

My Friend Monster

Written By: Paul Lippert & Tom Sparough

My friend monster
he likes milkshakes
loves to eat toast
he's not a ghost
he's my friend monster

My friend monster
he drops cupcakes
he makes mistakes
he's not pretend
he's my friend monster

Once he hid my shoes
my mom was really mad
I told her I didn't do it
that seemed to make her sad

I said - Mom, don't you worry.
My friend monster will make you happy. -
And just like I said
we found my shoes
underneath the bed

My friend monster
he eats my candy
rips my books
but he protects me from the dark

My friend monster
he's really tricky
only I can see him
because I'm sneaky

My friend monster
he likes milkshakes
he makes mistakes
he's not pretend
he's my friend monster

Sometimes A Song Is Just A Song

Written By: Paul Lippert

sometimes a song is like a boat upon the water
we head into the grey
and wave to sons and daughters on the shore
the rain is softly falling unaware
tiny beads of water in our hair
we turn around again and now they’re gone
sometimes a song is just a song

sometimes a song is like a tree that turns in autumn
we watch the colors change
and then one day the leaves are on the ground
we stir them as we walk and hear the sound
reminding us of days when we were young
playing in the piles upon the lawn
sometimes a song is just a song

sometimes a song is like a letter from an old friend
it feels so good to hold this paper
that she’s touched and held in both her hands
the words they hardly matter anymore
give a call when you’re in Baltimore
I’m sorry that it’s taken me so long
sometimes a song is just a song

(repeat first verse, then repeat last line)

Winner Take All Democracy

Written By: Paul Lippert

this year I'm gonna vote for the winner
no apologies except I'm sorry
to be sick and tired of waking up
on the side of blame
in a rotten game
grumblin' 'bout the money and the lies
and the other guys
wanna close my eyes
and feel what it's like
to wake up in the morning
on the right side of the polls

[Chorus:]
it's a winner take all democracy
you're free to leave if you disagree
i'm learning to love hypocrisy
here in America, land of the free

I'm gonna give it up for the spinner
don't give a damn for the truth
if lies make me rich or make me feel good
or feel afraid anything but shame
how about a little fame?
No tossing no turning no sleepless nights
no firefights until the dawn's early light
between the part of me that won't be fooled
and the part that doesn't give a shit

[Chorus]

It's not rocket science
B.F. Skinner could've told you that I'm trainable
a little hunger or thirst or envy or lust
any appetite you can ignite gets the best of me.
No doubts remain in this campaign
it's not insane to vote for a jerk
to wake up in the morning
on the right side of a smirk

[Chorus]

oh say can you see
hypocrisy?
