Biography

"This album gave me goosebumps"- Bob Katz, Grammy Winner -
Influenced by James Taylor, Sting and Shawn Colvin, to name (drop) but a few. Paul opened for such artists as Eddie Reader, Jools Holland, Kirsty MacColl and Maire Brennan(Clannad) and completed 21 dates throughout Ireland with Kieran Goss. Recently Paul invited to perform at was the world famous “NY Singer Songwriter Circle” in Manhattan’s Bitter End on Bleeker Street with some established American artists and writers. The Circle has a waiting list of over one year and performers in the past include over 100 of the biggest names in American Songwriting.

A song penned by Paul "A Life Like Mine" went to No5 in the irish charts as a release by top Irish solo singer, Tommy Fleming. .
In April 2006 3 of his songs (“Josephine”, “Crazy For You” and “This Town”) went to No’s 1,2 and 3 on BROADJAM, an American review site Chart positions are based on reviews from other artists and all reviews are compared against 1000’s of other songs on the site. Broadjam were overwhelmed by the response and gave their own……. “I have been craving this type of sound to once again find it’s way on to the scene. Just pure and raw talent” - Donny Neufuss, Broadjam, USA.

Josephine also received the highest positive response for a song by an unsigned artist on Irish National Radio(on the hit/miss section of the show on TODAY FM 92% texted in “hit” ).It provoked this response from the DJ, Ray Darcy "I can't believe this guy isn't signed".

(Background) Paul McDonnell joined legendary trad group, De Danann as lead singer/guitarist for a year in 1997/98, touring America.

After a year with De Danann Paul went on to form " "Cellar Club" with Dave Molloy.
“Scored For Life” (debut album by Cellar Club- former band) came about as a result of a chance meeting at MIDEM , Cannes, where Dave & Paul were performing. They were approached by Shawn Pierce from Maximum of Canada, who quickly realised the potential of marrying world class musicians from Vancouver with the unique acoustic style of Cellar Club. Over two journeys to Canada, Cellar Club were given a great opportunity to complete an album, which showcases their best work from the previous 5 years. “Scored For Life” features top Canadian musicians and two songs from the album were used on Canadian TV and shown worldwide. Another song – “Welcome to the Real World” was recorded by Tommy Fleming on his platinum-selling album “Sand and Water”.

Another song "For all the times" has been recorded by Paul Byrom who is currently touring America with Phil Coulter and Celtic Thunder to sell out audiences.

Lyrics

Pray

Written By: mc donnell molloy

come on out
see how you outshine the sun
in a crowd
you're my only one

talk to me if you should ever come undone
if you do not believe in all that you are

(c) I pray for the day
That my love will keep you warm
And I'll show you the way to light a fire in the storm.
There is more to you than meets the eye and only eye can try and pray

come and see all the colours lining up for you.
No need to hide away in your little world of blue
talk to me if you turn your back against the sun
If you do not believe in all that you are.

Josephine (Mc Donnell, Molloy)

Don’t read into the silence.
Don’t change the moment.
Don’t use words for what my eyes might say .

Don’t show me the war wounds.
It’s too late or too soon,
When we’ve no need to be saved.

©
Did you know I sing your praises,
When you are not around.
I’m the king of phrases,
Who’s got none now to be found.
Don’t you think the words would flow for me now.
My Josephine.

Are you fearful of the quiet.
That I might wander for a while.
Find myself a new love
And conjour our divide.

Put my hand upon the bible.
For confession or control.
I’ve always known the depth,
to the colours of your soul,
Against my soul

King Of America

Written By: McDonnell/Molloy

King Of America

If Jenny left the room she’d take the light out of the world.
I’d never look to see if someone felt the same.
I’d sooner believe it was all just for me,
All in my good name.

Could God have been so cruel to make her for someone
I hope the tide turns to greet me, for I’ve never lost myself.
In her curls or in her whispers or in her private affairs.
I might look into her heart and find mine beating there

©So don’t in love without me
Remember that boy from school
Who’ be the king of America
If it was just to impress you.

I’ve been crawling under blankets.
I’ve been searching deep within.
To find that place where my world stops and yours and ours begins.
We are walking hand in hand on a golden beach somewhere
With you laughing at my jokes and your smile fills the air.

©
So don’t in love without me
tremble in my arms if either will do
Is it the king of America
Or the boy

You never know the moment when you’re tied in forever
To a love that might never be.
Is it better to have loved or chased the thought of it.

superman

Written By: mcdonnell molloy

Lance always hated three legged racing.
Always someone holding him back.
Fun was for kids who collected comics.
He broke from the pack.
His heroes fled up mountains.
Chasing yellow jerseys on a foreign shore.

He said.
“Life asks for more”
But me I’m not so sure.

You don’t want to grow up thinking that you’ve gotta be Superman
I don’t think anybody can,
Except maybe Superman.
You just want to see what its like being happy in your own skin.
You know it ain’t such a big sin.
If you're not happy being the guy who's only happy when he wins

Medals fall on heroes, heroes call on choices .
They hear ambitious inner voices who saw the man who could fly.
I see the flapping cape,
I watch the clouds rush beneath him
But I look for the wires that holds up the lie.

And I just ask why
I just ask why.

I would never leave your side

Written By: mcdonnell molloy patterson

I Would Never Leave your Side.
(McDonnell, Molloy, Patterson)

Come on out of the shadows
Come on, come out and play.
Today I ran to catch you.
Before the light leaves the day.

We'll play ball
remember all,
The ties we cant forget.

I know that I've been distant.
There's been someone on my mind.
Did you think she'd take me from you,
We'd be lost for all time.

Oh Nothings changed or rearranged
And we're still who we are
And to you my heart is tied
I'd never leave your side.

Sometimes I feel the ocean.
And sometimes I need the shore.
And though I'm drawn towards her.
I could not love you less or more.

Oh Nothings changed or rearranged
And we're still who we are
And in you I will confide.
I'ld never leave your side.

So go long and try and catch this.
Even if you don't I still wont let you fall.

hold on

Written By: mannion/mcdonnell/molloy

Hold on

Down on your knees
Playing with broken pieces.
These are the things, heavy on your mind

Aiming too high
Drawn to a jagged coastline
Making the best of all you find

When everything is wrong
And all your strength is called upon
Be strong.
When everything you need
Willl come to you if you believe
Hold on Hold on .

Weight on your back
Is just a cross you shoulder.
Makes you old before your time

Let it go
Throw it on a bonfire
And hope can flicker in a flame

When everything is wrong
And all your strength is called upon
Be strong.
When everything you need
Will come to you if you believe
Hold on Hold on .

stormchaser

Written By: mcdonnell maher

Something’s changing in the weather
Nothing I can say
I could fall into your arms
But you’d push me away

Are you waiting for a cloud to touch the gound
Are you looking for an answer
waiting to be found

Stormchaser
It takes you
Running to the wreckage
With a fire in your eyes
Everybodies leaving
But you still believe in things that were never meant to fly

Maybe I’m not enough to hold you and I don’t know why
I can no longer hear your footsteps
Have I lost you to the sky

Its just so hard to ground you
There’s a twister in your heart
As you gravitate
Its tearing me apart

Stormchaser, it takes you …………..

All the times I tried to understand
It’s out of my hands

Days without you

Written By: mcdonnell molloy

Play the songs of innocense
So I can beathe the days
When we loved before
All my words for your valentine
But never under your door
I was the one to hold you but I never did or told you
The things we keep inside
Do you ever stop to want me
You know that you haunt me though you hide.

All this is hopeless
'cause I miss you
And its all I get to do
Is it to much to ask for one touch
It might just get me through
The days without you.

Play the songs of innocense.
Take me back to better times.
You should know my weakness.
I placed my lips upon your mind.

I was the one to hold you but I never did or told you.
The things we keep inside.
Do you search for me through strangers.
like I do for you for ages
But never find.

(c)

Days without you
Keep rolling on forever
Days without you
All so hopeless
