Like an intravenous supply of life’s essentials: soaring Brit-tinged melodies, guitar hooks equal parts saccharine and acerbic, and the drums to drive it all patiently, steadily inside. Administered by a guy feeling his way through life with one hand on an instrument and the other on a mic.

Biography

In an era when most musical acts are trying to microwave their careers, Paul Sebastian is taking a different, less beaten path. After spending years playing with friends in Texas and around the country, including a recently concluded tour of duty with good friend Ryan Edgar (myspace.com/ryanedgar) as guitarist/bassist/backing vocalist, Paul realized the time had come to unmoor himself and shove off into unchartered waters... to put his hat in the ring and step forward as an artist.

But to understand better, we need to rewind and zoom in a bit. In the spring of 2006, Paul was in grad school, moving toward his masters in communication. But the songs had been coming for years, and against this flood he had no defenses left: he would have to record. Beginning work that summer, and concluding in February 2007, he assembled his EP, Awake and Moving, on which he played all instruments, save drums, produced the record, start to finish, and engineered almost all tracks. This wasn’t merely a recording... this was an education. And an experience that set the stage for current events.

Two thousand and nine finds Paul Sebastian at work on what will be his first "proper" release, a 5-song EP, available sometime in mid- to late-January, 2010. Working with Nashville producer Josh Silverberg (Edison Glass lead vocalist/guitarist), Paul is ready to see new songs like "Unlock Your Hands" and "Will You Ever" work their way into the interior of listeners from coast to coast.

Lyrics

Awake and Moving

Written By: Paul Sebastian Bruno

Now I'm awake and moving
And unafraid, I'm choosing
To break the latch
That holds this flood back
And let its waves
Sweep me away

Control Escapes

Written By: Paul Sebastian Bruno

The next step I take
Marks the place
Of no return
The caution signs
I've pass remind me
Of what I've learned

To play it safe
Look both ways
No sudden moves
Keep your cool
Stay where you've been
The shallow end
Don't let control escape you

Not knowing how I'm gonna fare
I step out and take your dare
Let race into the unknown
Now all my safety nets are gone
You're all I have to fall back on
In this adventure, I am not alone

The very leaves
On these trees
Look like question marks
Uncertainty
Surrounds me
But I know you can't be far

I pull out my map
But it can't match
The scene I find
No, but I still choose to dismiss
The rauckous hiss
From the crowd I've left behind
(They yell...)

"Play it safe
Look both ways
No sudden moves
Keep your cool
Stay where you've been
The shallow end
Don't let control escape you"

Not knowing how I'm gonna fare
I step out and take your dare
Let race into the unknown
Now all my safety nets are gone
You're all I have to fall back on
In this adventure, I am not alone

Dusk Or Dawn

Written By: Paul Sebastian Bruno

I bought a paper today
And spent my evening washing away
The crimson stain it left behind
The scarlet shadows I see with closed eyes

This life can blow you a kiss
Right after it just knocked out your wind
I’ve tasted dreams laced with hope
Then woke to demons, villains and ghosts

Here we are
Sitting on
The edge of
Dusk or dawn

Just like a bruise that hides for days?
Or like a spark that turns to flame?
The whole world shakes and shows its pace
But which horizon does it chase?

Here we are
Sitting on
The edge of
Dusk or dawn

Is love a star in a sky that’s frozen?
A lonely light in a massive ocean?
Where loyalty and trust are just islands
And the rising tide will soon hide them?

Pushing past all of this silence
Catastrophe and all of this violence
I refuse to cede that the darkness
Will have the final word over all else

I know sunshine is coming,
Sunshine is coming, soon
And when it finally does
I’ll show these scars as my proof

That I spent all my best affection
Nothing withheld or kept back
‘Cause we are made for daylight
And I’ll reflect all that I can
