Paul Van Ryan

BandPopSinger/Songwriter

Paul Van Ryan delivers blunt, honest, confessional and bloody catchy songs about all the chaos that surrounds him. You'll be hooked from beginning to end when watching him live, and that foot will not stop tapping to the up tempo stuff and your heart will sink when he takes you down to the heartache

Biography

Paul Van Ryan is from a town in the middle of the UK called Leamington Spa and is not one to big himself up. He's not in it for fame or fortune, just recognition and to be able to get people thinking about what he has to sing about.

PVR writes about pretty much all the chaos in his life as honest as he can, and there has been plenty of it!! Break ups, Romance, meeting the right girl at the wrong time and getting his head kicked in, Religion, sex, death, love, hate...it's been described as confessional and the songs invite you into a world that he paints out for you with a catchy theme tune to go with it all.

PVR has been playing in bands for the past few years and although he's loved every minute being the front man, his solo stuff has always been on the side line...until now.

It's only been until after the summer of 2008 where he's shifted his priorities with music. The band he's been in has been great but nowhere near as productive or commited as he'd like it to be so he's spending 2009 dedicated to his solo stuff promoting the album he recorded in Autumn 2008 titled "Man of the Pee-Pole"

After gigging his solo stuff and playing at various open mic nights, people seem to relate to his music and has been told that he now finally found his voice and style that seems to be impressing many people on the live scene.

People seem to tap into the lyrics as each story he tells grips you from beggining to end and the moment you even think of switching off, some random twist takes place to keep you gripped again.

Paul sounds nothing like his influences, he rarely listens to music anyway so not to be influenced, he is the purple cow in a field of normal ones and stands out a mile with his funky melodies and intriguing lyrics.

This solo stuff is all new, fresh and exciting and he'll be throwing himself at every oportunity to get heard. He's definitely not your usual generic singer/songwriter and you'll see this when you see him play live.

Find the right preacher

Written By: Paul Van Ryan

I've looked into them all and I cant make no sense
When it comes to religion I just sit on the fence
Maybe I've not found the right preacher

When I look on the stage it all looks the same
A guy with a book keeps repeating his name
100 men trying to be the new Jesus

There's a better life after this for those who believe
Just say your prayers and keep on following me
One day maybe I will

Keep your head in the book and spread the word
Try and turn this bad world good
One day we'll beat this evil

If God loves all and each the same
Why do the innocent feel the pain
And why am I the lucky one
Life throws battles from the day you are born
And I feel like I've won them all
But I don't believe in his son
It's not that I don't have respect
I just find it hard to connect
My faith comes from my soul
Maybe one day I'll challenge him
To fix this world and wipe my sins
But for now I'm alright on my own

I've looked into them all and I cant decide
Which religion creates the biggest divide
Surely one God will sort this

If I see evil in you and you preach to them
And they're stupid enough to take it in
Well, surely your God will sort this

If God loves each and all the same
Why do the innocent feel the pain
And why am I the lucky one
Life throws battles til the day that you die
And it's your choice if you want to deny it
You know what's right and wrong
It's not that I don't have respect
I find all the morals wise and perfect
I can live my life by this
Maybe one day I'll challange him
In this fucked up world where do you begin
I just feel he's gone and took the piss

I've prayed to the wall, I've lit up the candle
Faith belongs to those who cant handle
Life and all it brings

But faith is the seed that leads us to hope
And if we didn't have that then we wouldn't cope
With life and all it brings

If God loves all and each the same
Why do the innocent feel the pain
And why am I the lucky one
Life is a battle that you fight on your own
What happens next is still unknown
So you gotta try and make it fun
Its not that I don't have respect
Or my way of thinking is correct
I'm just waiting on the fence
Maybe one day he'll challenge me
And force me down upon my knees
And will make me see sense

I'd say listen LORD I don't need your help
And there's a million more who could do without it
But if you guide me in the right way
I'll save the man next door and a million more
If you give me the power to do it all
And I will serve you all the way
I don't need a book, don't need a preacher
I just need a sign that I'm gonna meet ya
And that will be enough
You can see i've tried and been denied
I'm not the one who was crucified

Every Girl is beautiful

Written By: Paul Van Ryan

Fat girls, thin girls, girls of every size
When you’re falling in love you travel through the eyes
Black girls, white girls, girls of every colour
You don’t have to tell me that men are fussy buggers

Every girl is beautiful
There are no ugly ones
And if they start to tease its insecurity
And when the time is right
You know he’ll meet his type
His type of girl that’s gonna rock his world

But between you and me
You know I blame TV
And all them articles in magazine
So if you want to win
Just feel comfy in your skin
And you will see what love will bring

Old girls, young girls, girls of every age
When you’re falling in love you start a brand new page
Smart girls, thick girls, girls of every IQ
You don’t have to ask me which one is right for you

Chorus

Tall girls, short girls, girls of every height
When you’re falling in love, it’ll be first sight
Trendy girls, chavy girls, girls of every fashion
You don’t have to ask me which one will fire you passions

Chorus

It you wanna fall in love you gotta face reality
It not about the looks its all about compatibility right?
And if you wanna spend the rest of you life with the same tits and ass,
Then you gotta get along with the insides surely, yeah?

Cuz its when 2 souls collide and you’re on this rollercoaster ride
Shitting yourself about life and you self doubt
Running around trying to find the perfect lover
But Judging everyone by the look of their cover
So just turn the pages and have a little read
You may come across something you didn’t see
Like, something in common, I dunno
Or the fact you used to both play Nintendo

Walks in parks, music by moon light
Little sparks, like cartoons and fireflies
Collecting stamps, Taking long weekends
Nothing feels better than to be loving your best friend

Niagara Falls

Written By: Paul Van Ryan

It.s been one of them days when I just get reminded
Of all the things we had and all things decided
Oh no, listen to the radio playing our song that made us 2 years ago
I try real hard to hide the reminders
But fate takes control, tries to come and find us
Oh no, and hour later, pan pipe versions in the elevator

It don't matter where I go in this world
I find it so hard to escape this girl
You can leave your homes but no your dreams
Cant stop the visions that are following me
They say time heals so I.m wondering why
It takes so long I've used up my 2 ply tissues
And the tears still fall
It's like trying to mop up Niagara falls

And my heart keeps aching, my heart keeps aching

It's been one of them days when I just stand in one place
I hear your voice being called but it's not your face
Oh no, same dream, when you're looking like a girl on the cover of a magazine
I try real hard to hide the reminders
But fate takes control, comes and tries to wind us up
Oh no, same shoes that walked out on me the day that I lost you

It don't matter where I go in this world
I find it so hard to escape this girl
You can leave your home but no your dreams
Cant stop the visions that are following me
They say time heals so I'm wondering why
It takes so long I've used up my 2 ply tissues
And the tears still fall
It's like trying to mop up Niagara falls

And my heart keeps aching, my heart keeps aching

Discography

"Man of the Pee-Pole" is the only album out for Paul Van Ryan and was quietly released on November 10th 2008. It's available on iTunes worldwide and can be ordered from the website www.paulvanryan.com or www.myspace.com/paulvanryan

An official release date and launch party is set for Jan/Feb at "Nicole's" in the jewelry quarter of Birmingham

The next 6 months is all about promoting the album and firing out musioc video's and singles along the way and hopes to find a bigger audience.

Another EP will also be released after the summer.

Set List

For his own stuff, a quiet room is the best room to play as can break out the more delicate tracks which seem to make the best impressions, especially "Find the right preacher" which has been an unexpected live favorite and is planned to be released as the first single from the album.

So it depends on the crowd really, there are 5 tunes that always get played with various optional others and set lengths vary from 30mins to 2 hours.

If I do break out any covers, I like playing female songs like Say a little Prayer/Aretha Franklin, Time after Time/Cyndi Lauper and maybe a few random dance tracks played in an acoustic style. Again this depends on the crowd.

If it's quiet audience then the gig will leave you thinking about life alot as the softer songs have quite hard hitting lyrics. If there is a party atmosphere then his up tempo stuff will get you feet a movin'
