Peace in the Jones

Peace in the Jones, a three-piece rock ensemble from Louisville, Kentucky, has recently celebrated the release of their new all-original CD Manna and the Devils. This six song EP has a driving rock sound reminiscent of the sixties and seventies but with melodic pop sensibility. Think Led Zeppelin or The Who; add a little Journey or Styx, and a touch of Marvin Gaye. Maybe throw some Radiohead in for fun. However it comes to be described, their tightly arranged musical changes and well-crafted lyrics make this EP a polished work of art.
Their sound has led them to share the stage with acts such as Robbie Krieger Band (of the Doors), Derek Trucks Band, Leftover Salmon, Ekoostik Hookah, David Nelson Band, and Inner Circle. They have released two independent CD’s, were featured on multiple episodes of a KET produced television series showcasing regional music, have toured heavily throughout Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Tennessee, and have been voted 'Best Original Band in Louisville' by the readers of the popular and widely circulated newsweekly 'the LEO'.
Peace in the Jones is the power trio of Kirk Whitehouse on bass and vocals, Tommy Sturgeon on lead guitar and vocals, and Mike Loscalzo on drums and vocals. Originally formed in Nashville, Tennessee, while attending Belmont University in 1995, they were a four-five-and often-six-piece act that became prominent in the college “Jam Band” scene.
“If you are a fan of great vocals and songwriting, the Grateful Dead and hardworking bands, get you’re a__ out to see Peace in the Jones – you won’t be sorry,” said the Cincinnati, Ohio, newspaper Everybody’s News.
When Kirk, Tommy, and Mike relocated to Louisville, KY, their hometown, in 2001, they re-tooled the band as a power trio and have since been serving up some of the tightest and most-exciting rock-n-roll in the region.
The repertoire of Peace in the Jones includes over thirty original songs and a covers’ list that has included hundreds of songs over the years – from Pink Floyd to Waylon Jennings to Led Zeppelin to Prince. Their musicianship is apparent from the first chord of a performance: “…the secret weapon of the Louisville, Ky.-based band is the singing of Kirk Whitehouse, who has a soulful voice with an intriguing quiver” – The Tennessean.
Their first CD, Just Stop To Listen, was independently released in 1998. Recorded in Nashville, TN this 10 song all-original disc includes appearances by Nashville musicians on keyboards, saxophone, mandolin, and more. Their latest studio album, the EP ‘Manna and the Devils’, was released in January of 2004. For this release, the band chose to record at Louisville, Kentucky’s own VML Downtown Recording Studio. They hope this new all-original disc will be the key to unlock the door between regional and national exposure. Their goal is to sign with an independent or major label that will help take the project to the next level.
