"Loopallu Festiva"

I can't resist the Highlands. Maybe it's those mind-blowing skies, maybe it's my genes (Dr. Laverne, my dad, is Ross-shire born). So I couldn't miss the chance to give this festival, 60 miles north of Inverness (yes, the county goes up that far) a shout. My pick of the bill are super-cute newcomers Pearl and the Puppets. - Grazia - by Lauren Laverne

Bio

Pearl is the quietly rebellious leader of this alternative pop five-piece, which includes her backing band The Puppets. Her atmospheric, innocent and quirky songs capture the coming of age spirit while breaking through the barriers of expectation.

After posting four tracks on Myspace Pearl was snapped up by Warner Chappell Publishing and Twenty First Artists for management. Shortly after her demo recording of ‘Because I Do’ was picked up for use as the soundtrack to Vodafone’s Australian and New Zealand advert.

Pearl then went on to sign a worldwide deal with Universal and is due to release her first single on Island Records in Spring 2010. She has been working in the studio with Steve Christanthou of Corrine Bailey Rae fame.

Pearl And The Puppets played Scotland’s T In The Park and Wickerman Festivals this summer to rave reviews!

“Sutherland is cute as a button and stylish in an offbeat way…Feisty and fearless, she bantered cheekily with the crowd and went down a storm’ Susan Swarbrick – The Herald Saturday Magazine

“Pearl has a voice to fall in love with… “ Jim Gellatly - XFM Scotland

"Like a refreshing bottle of Lucozade when you're mouth is so dry you can't
even speak, Pearl and her Puppets offer an injection of understated energy
that leaves us gasping for more.“ Gemma Fraser Virtual Festivals

“…the sound of Blondie if they’d listened to Folk instead of Punk…” Jonathan Geddes - The Herald Scotland

“‘Armed with her distinctive sound [Pearl] has got plenty to look forward to”’ Chris Sweeney - Scottish Sun
