"P Easy on Raptalk.net"

Those who are unfamiliar with midwest artists can shout the names Nelly, St Lunatic's and several others to familiarize themselves with the territory. One new comer with the work ethic of a stampede is, P Easy out of Toledo Ohio. Armed with a slew of credible mixtapes, a hot new club single and teh determination to put on for his city, P Easy is ready to make the rest of these so called rapper eat his dust.

What's good P Easy, let everyone know about your movement.

It's something fresh and something new. It's Midwest. It's for the streets but also for the people craving good lyricism.

First off, where did the name come from?

Easy money baby. They called me that because money was easy to come by for me. I was getting it by all means.

When did this hip hop thing really grab you and make you realize this was your calling?

When I realized it was a way for me to vent the frustrations of life in a positive way.

Being from Toledo, Ohio (heart of the midwest), what can you tell us about the hip hop community out there?

The hip-hop community out this way is very diverse. Being that we are right in the middle of it all, we are a melting pot of different types of styles and sounds and lyrical ability. We are a mixture of it all.

Many people may rope you in as a southern type artist, how do you defend yourself in that statement?

It's a common misconception but if you take time out to listen to my music there is nothing that ropes me into being a southern-type artist period. I don't have a southern accent to hide where I'm from; I'm a Midwest artist through and through. It seems to me that people aren't used to artists from other regions making hot records so they give the south credit anytime someone makes a hot record. That's the state of hip-hop right now. Everyone wants to piggy back off the south, which I refuse to do. Period.

How does P Easy intend to make his impact in this rap game?

I'm baring my soul to the masses. We're getting out here everyday and keeping my name in the ears of the fans and listeners and constantly showing that there are alternatives to the over-saturated state of hip-hop that is prevalent today.

Let's talk 'I Chase Bread', your new single, its def a certified club banger, what's the concept and what do want listeners to experience?

It's the uplifting experience. Hustlers aren't the only ones that chase bread. It's a song that everyone can relate to, no matter what you do to make money. It's the new anthem for everyone who feels like I feel and is out there doing what they do to make things happen for themselves. I want people to hear the track and get inspired to better themselves. I wanted my first single to be big not only the sound but also the lyrics. I wanted people to see that I'm not just another individual that can only make songs that touch on a limited number issues.

You've been heavy on the mixtape scene, putting in work with Green lantern, and now your working towards your album with production team 'the Arkitekts'- how is it working with them and how will the album differ from the mixtapes?

It's a different type of experience. The mixtapes allow you to show more of your bars and you more straight out lyrical ability where as with an album you need to show your songwriting ability and structure. With the album you really need to go for broke to gain as many fans as possible. The album is kind of like your platform. A lot of times mixtapes only circulate around the hood. Working with the Arkitekts is a great experience. Once we got a few songs into the album, the chemistry was there so we just kept on working.

Do you think mixtapes still have a relavance in today's hip hop environment?

Yes I feel mixtapes are relevant. The mixtapes are a medium to reach the people for the artists who have more talent and maybe less financial means to pay reps to shop them or plug them to labels. I feel like mixtapes area huge part of the independent artist promotion.

How have you been using the internet to further your name and get fans?

I've been doing a lot of blogging in a lot of different of profiles to connect with people. Even people who don't have the same views as I do, it's interesting to hear their side and let them hear mine. I try to stay in touch with fans all around the world, not just the United States. There is a lot more to P-Easy than just the artist. The internet is my launching pad to promote not just my music but also myself.

"P Easy on HipHopRuckus.com"

P Easy from Toledo, Ohio, what's poppin? Let everyone know about your hometown and how hip hop is represented there.
-I'm feeling good right now. I have a lot of positive things coming in my direction. The only problem I have with the representation of Hip-Hop here is that we lack unity. I mean we do have a lot of artists working together but as a whole we lack unity. All forms of Hip-hop are represented to the fullest here. We have the back-packers, the MC's, graffiti, break-dancers. We represent it all.

Right now hip hop is in a stagnant state, seems like only a few names really matter, how is P Easy setting up to make sure he matters?
-I'm attempting to shift the balance of power. It's the Midwest's turn. I'm doing everything in my power to make the P-Easy a household name and make the Midwest the dominant region in hip-hop.

'I Chase Bread' is the new single that's about to pop, where did the idea come from and what do you think the feedbacks gonna look like?

-It was something I and Arkiteks came up with to distinguish me from other songs that are currently playing on the radio. The feedback as of right now is great and it's only going to get bigger and better as we really kick off the promotion for it.

Being from the midwest, do you feel your chances are better, worse or indifferent in regards to making it to your goals in the rap game?

-I feel like being from the Midwest has nothing to do with me reaching my goals or not reaching my goals. It's going to be my hard work and work ethic that will allow to me to get where I want to be and to reach my goals. I would achieve regardless of being from the Midwest or not.

You put a lot of mixtape work in over the years. You worked with green lantern and team invasion, how was that experience and what did that do for your career?
-It was a great experience. And by working with Team and Invasion and Green Lantern it made the mixtape more credible and gave more a little more buzz.

You have a new album coming up called 'Eye on the prize', what was the approach creatively when it came to making this product and what can aspiring fans hope to hear?

-It's something fresh and new. It's a new sound for me and it expands on the style of street rap that Midwest artists have crafted. It gives fans a chance to hear what they've been missing, substance in the music.

The Arkitekts are involved on the production end, how did you guys link and what's the chemistry like in the studio?
-I linked up with the Arkitekts through a mutual friend named Big Dave. He let them hear some of my music and they were really feeling it. We got together and just kind of had a great vibe or chemistry and we kept it moving from there.

What's next P Easy?

-The world! Nah I'm just playing. I'm out promoting trying to reach the widest audience possible and touch as many people as possible.

"P Easy on Mogulstatus"

Toledo's finest is in the house, P Easy, what's going down in your neck of the woods?

Just grinding man. It's hard work for a city that really never had it's full 15 minutes in the lime light. I'm actively working to fix that.

Who inspired you to start rapping?

-My cousin Ishmeal did when he came home. He had been rapping since the 80's and the way he was putting his words together, it really spoke to me and I felt like it was something I could be successful at.

You seem pretty busy on the mixtape scene, what's up with your new mixtape 'My Money is Dope Money', how's the response in your area and beyond?

-Shout to AB the White Boy, he was really the first one who listened to my music and told me that I had something special to offer and hosted 'My Money is Dope Money.' People were really surprised in my ability to put songs together through my visualization of what was happening in the streets. Overall people were really feeling it. I received a great response.

The midwest has been a hot bed of music lately, how is P Easy preparing to make his mark in the game?

-My plan is to just keep my name in their ears. I want to give people an alternative to the less lyrics-driven rap that we hear all the time today. Also, I want to build on the foundation that other legendary artists from the Midwest such as Eminem, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Nelly, Anita Baker, Common, the Ohio Players, Roger and Zapp and the list of other artists whose names can't all fit here laid for new artists such as myself.

Your working with 'The Arkitekts' on your new EP 'Eyes on The Prize', how far along are you and what makes you most excited about the project?

- We're actually done recording. We recorded around 40 tracks and now we are in the process of sitting down and listening to them all and picking and choosing which tracks make the EP. The ones we choose are getting mixed and mastered and hopefully the new project will be ready to hit the streets in the very near future. I'm excited about the project because it's my most well-rounded project to date and I really feel like it's going to really help me present my talent to the masses.

Talk about your new single 'I chase Bread', what's the concept all about and why was this your choice for a single?

-The concept behind "I Chase Bread" makes the song the anthem for any person who wakes up in the morning with any kind of hustle or any kind of 9-5 to make money to provide for themselves or their family. It was my choice not only because of it's big sound but also because of it's universal need that everyone can relate to.

Are there any other specific songs we should be on the lookout for?

-I have slew of songs but more specifically my second single "Like It's Nothing," as well as one of my most controversial tracks "We Will Never Be Free." I really hope that "We Will Never Be Free" will open people's eyes to the things that we let control our lives. Us as a people of any nationality shouldn't have to rely on politically-driven media to control our lives.

What's it like working with the 'The Arkitekts'?

-We create magic. There really isn't much else to say. We just have a great vibe together in studio and the music speaks for itself.

What's next on the agenda?

-"Eyes On The Prize." Staking my claim as the next Midwest artist on the rise. Heavy promotions.

"P Easy on TheFlowLive.com"

What's poppin P Easy, who are you and what do you do?

-I'm a savior of Midwest music that offers a glimpse into the streets like very few other artists have done. I speak on events that I've lived and experienced but I don't glorify it.

What made you want to start in the rap game?

-Music was a way for me to vent my anger and frustration without resorting to violence and other negative resolutions.

What's ohio like in terms of it's hip hop structure?

-Like I've said before, it's really a melting pot. You know every region has its own flavor but Ohio is really a mixture of different talent. Some artists are more lyrics driven while others have more of a swag to them. There are just so many different styles here in Ohio it's impossible to really pinpoint one as being an Ohio style.

What are you doing to make your mark in the game overall?

-I'm baring my soul to the masses. We're getting out here everyday and keeping my name in the ears of the fans and listeners and constantly showing that there are alternatives to the over-saturated state of hip-hop that is prevalent today.

A lot of artists claim to grind, define your grind.

-I keep my eyes on the prize. I know where I want to be, where I need to be and I'm focused on getting there. I put a lot of thought into my songs and lyrics so that people anywhere can identify with it. People in California to Florida can hear what I say and relate. I keep my music fresh and give the people what they really want as opposed to what they've been programmed to accept from the industry. I put a lot of time and effort into my music.

What's a P Easy show like and what can people expect to experience?

-A man who loves life. I'm not afraid to show my real self to fans. People can expect a lot of charisma and energy. I want to let people know that you don't need all this negativity being portrayed. There is another way. I have a lot of fun with my music and you can tell. I take my music seriously, my music is my life and it shows through my songs.

'My money is dope money' is your new mixtape, talk about your approach to making it and the concept behind it.

-At the time when I started this project, my "career choices" that I had made had me on a high. The album is very straight forward. I didn't create any kind of façade or pull the curtains over anyone's eyes. If "Eyes on the Prize" was my life then "My Money is Dope Money" is the prequel.

Talk about your new up and coming ep 'Eyes on The Prize' and your chemistry with 'The Arkitekts' as producers.

-It's something fresh and new. It's a new sound for me and it expands on the style of street rap that Midwest artists have crafted. My chemistry with the Arkitekts is great. We have a mutual respect for each other as people and as artists before we even work together. Once we get into the studio we can just vibe and get down to business.

What's next for P Easy?

-The Industry. That's where I'm headed to solidify my name along with other great artists from the various genres of music. I'm out to be the best artist I can be.

"P Easy on Hoodgrownonline.com"

Hey P Easy, for those unfamiliar that need to get familiar, run down some background.

-I'm resident of Toledo, Ohio; Midwest born and raised,. 26 years old. I received my first taste of industry of success with my mixtape 'For The Money,' hosted by DJ Green Lantern and Team Invasion. I'm a new artist doing what I can to represent for my region and really try and be the new face of the Midwest.

When did you get started as an emcee?

-Let me see, what year was that? It was around 94' when I started writing but it wasn't until about 1996 or 1997 that I started recording and really trying to perfect my craft.

Who are you main musical influences?

-Hard to pinpoint just a few specific influences because I really have a love for a wide range of genres of music from Jay-Z to the Beatles, Eminem, Twista list of Midwest artists that's too long to name. Matter of fact there is one song that really influenced me from a song writer's aspect and believe it or not it's "Mr. Jones" by the Counting Crows. That might sound funny coming from a street rapper but I really have a deep appreciation for all kinds of music.

I heard you went on a little 'negative' haitus after your first project dropped? Care to elaborate?

Actually not really. The only thing I'm gonna say is it was the game. It took 10 years of my life from me it was the rush of fast money. I would never glorify anything negative I try to separate myself from the negative aspects of my life and the events that I've been through. I don't wanna be classified as just another Young Jeezy or Rick Ross who used their negative actions as a launch pad for "success" and leading the youth believe that's it's ok to be in the streets and sellin' drugs.

What's the hip hop Climate like out in Toledo Ohio and what are you doing to lock you region down so everyone knows P Easy?

-It's really a melting pot here in Toledo. We have a lot of different levels of talent here. Some people are more talented than others but who am I to judge another man's goals and dreams and creative ability if they are expressing themselves you know? Our scene is kind of fragmented though right now because of lack of originality. Don't get me wrong though we do have a lot of shining stars in Toledo but as a whole we need to carve our own identity.

As far as locking my region down and letting people know who I'm bringing something new and fresh to show other Midwest artists we should be proud to be from the Midwest and we don't have to follow in the footsteps of southern artists. We are in the process of putting together a college tour as well as giving out thousands of free mixtapes through out the Midwest and a little on the east coast and letting my fans know Patrick the person as well as P-Easy the artist because Patrick really is the man behind the music but P-Easy is the medium in which I deliver it to the people.

You have put out a slew of mixtapes over the years, one called ' For The Money' hosted by Green Lantern, how did you make that connection and what was the feedback on the street level?

-It's funny you should ask that because it really was not so much me but one of my best friends, up-and-coming producer Lex.Gunz who wanted to do a joint mixtape with Team Invasion and Green Lantern so he hooked it up and made it happen and it's really benefited both of us. The response was good overall but I think there were some people where it was over their heads. They weren't used to someone explaining the streets without glorifying it. There are only a few artists out there currently who do that you know, kind of in the vain of a Lupe Fiasco and really that's my goal. But yeah, overall the reaction was good, people were really feeling it and it helped me gain momentum with my buzz and push me into the next project.

The new mixtape 'My Money is Dope Money' is out now, what's the main difference in growth since last mixtape and what can fans expect to experience?

-A ride through the streets and my personal experiences that no one else can give. As far as its difference from previous projects, it was mostly about expansion. I expanded my sound and my music sonically. The growth was definitely noticeable and a lot of people let me know that they noticed it too. The lyrics were more powerful and as a whole it was more well-rounded. When I was in the studio recording it people would ask if I was recording my album, that's how full and well-rounded it sounded to them.

Your working on a full length EP with production duo 'The Arkitekts' called 'Eyes On The Prize' , how did you guys link and where are you in regards to the EP's completion?

-I linked up with the Arkitekts through a mutual friend named Big Dave. He let them hear some of my music and they were really feeling it. We g - Cartel/ Hoodgrownonline.com

P EASY

BIOGRAPHY

Patrick Dar'nell Edwards, known creatively as P-Easy, was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 21, 1981. Even though P grew up around music most of his life, it wasnt until the age of 15 that he become personally involved in it, having been influenced by his cousin Ishmeal who returned home after his release from prison. P-Easy began spending his free time perfecting his writing ability and, during his senior year in high school, he released his first project along with rhyming partner and long time friend Damar. Like many aspiring independent artists, the two emcees financed the project on their own and upon release the project received mixed responses. The results of the project led P-Easy to take a hiatus from music and to follow what others might deem more negative paths in life.

After years of living by the streets and participating in a career choice of what will only be characterized as less than that of a model citizen, P-Easy decided his salvation from the streets lay solely in music. Through the help of friends Gutta Dave, Bus-1, Lex.Gunz and others, P-Easy made a head-turning re-introduction to the music scene and released a string of mixtapes including OG Series Volume 1, Hand on the Pump, For The Money which was hosted by industry heavy-hitters Team Invasion and DJ Green Lantern, and finally My Money is Dope Money, which was hosted by AB the Whiteboy and mixed by DJ Mestro. P-Easy had re-invented his style and charm and is already well on his way establishing himself as a fixture in todays urban music scene.

P-Easys music has been described commercially as the content and rawness of a Young Jeezy as could only be told first-hand by a Lupe Fiasco-esq poet who has lived it.

Currently, with the help and guidance of the production duo The Arkiteks, P-Easy is putting the final touches on his full-length solo debut, Eyes on the Prize, and is ready to lead off with his power single I Chase Bread.

P-Easy is ready to step up to the plate and makes it known that This is for the Midwest. Its our time and we will not be denied.
