Biography

Pelican Railroad has been formed from the journey that is life, with convergent energies tapping into the heartbeat that is our existence at this point in time, and to dance.

Pelican Railroad has been steadily gaining steam since it was formed for New Years Eve 03-04 to entertain guests at the North Country Junction deep in the north woods of Minnesota. The workers pulling the shifts have changed but the light still points north and the train now travels down its own tracks.

This train pulls in with a strong emphasis on rhythm and the need to dance, combined with tales of truth and observation.

Night's Tapestry

Written By: Drew WJ

The night laid out it's tapestry
A feast of fancy deals for those who dare
Guaranteed to bring a stir
your personal awakenings it lures
Shout out Calm down
Take your place upon the other side
Dance for me I’ll dance for you
Dance for what's real deep inside
Bring your pieces to the alter
Dance for you've got nothing left to hide

Like silk upon your skin so light
The tireless flame draws you cross the room
Entranced in it’s impassioned glow
You gather your strength and spread your wings
So fast Slow out of time
Mind alone no longer chooses your way
Upon the naked shores
Conscious minds reality astray
Cradled like a sacred child
You've got nothing left to fear so fly
Like the dawn you purge the past
All bets are down, now let it ride

Jerry's Bar

Written By: Drew WJ

I was just a greenhorn hanging round Ashbury & Haight
Tye dye and sandals trying to look like I could hang
When she walked by smiled said come on boy follow me down
I found myself headed straight for the heart that town
There were lights, smiles, happy moans and smoke in the air
My mind was big and I could feel every strand of my hair
There was sunshine pouring out of every hole in my head
When I woke up in the morning she looked right through me and said

Come on
down to Jerry’s Bar once again
Hang out with your friends
have a drink on the house
Somebody light me up
I got something I want to tell you all about

In the spring of my time and I just keep getting warmer
I seem to spend a lot of time hanging down on that street corner
Waiting for the breeze to blow her back my way
Catch a ride on the other side again today
As the night wandered on through deep shag pile
I thought about that twist in her mind and the light of her smile
When I woke up down in china town again
I thought to myself there’s just one thing to be said

Long story short that short story turned out to be long
Like repeating every word every word in the line of song
There’s a place in my heart looks just like that street corner
From time to time it’s there that I may wander
It’s an easy stroll if you’d like to follow me down
You can feel the beat when you reach the heart of that town
As long as you like like you're always invited to stay
When the sun goes down you can hear them whisper and say

New York Desert

Written By: Drew WJ

It was nightime in Los Angeles and sunrise in New York
if you pay that going rate you can make it there in hours
well my foot is on the peddle but nothing seems to go
so I took off all my baggage and I layed it on the floor

From Omaha to LA is a long and hungry road
the darker that it gets the farther I must go
headlight to moonlight and always on the go
I just dont think I can make it and I had to let you know

Somewhere in California the leaves are turning brown
somewhere in the midwest the snow has hit the ground
if it's been to long a winter and you've had enough of me
just kindly pay the piper and you know I'll get up and leave

Dirty Cowboy

Written By: Drew WJ

I’m just a dirty cowboy looking for my prairie queen
I ride all night long through the cold wind and rain
I know I’ll find her for the sun goes down on me

Tired and lonely ready to get off the trail
Settle down pay my debt stay out of jail
Sheriff don’t owe me but I sure could use a break

I’m just a dirty cowboy looking for my prairie queen
I ride all night long through the cold wind and rain
I know I’ll find her for the sun goes down on me

I saw her dancing down by the river side
I thought I’d ask her to be my bride
I don’t know if She’ll love me but it sure seems worth a try

I’m just a dirty cowboy looking for my prairie queen
I ride all night long through the cold wind and rain
I know I’ll find her for the sun goes down on me

The moon sure looks pretty shining on my queen
The moon sure looks pretty shining on my queen and me
Pinch myself all over must be some crazy dream

I’m just a dirty cowboy looking for my prairie queen
I ride all night long through the cold wind and rain
I know I’ll find her for the sun goes down on me

When We Go Dancing

Written By: Drew WJ

When we go dancing
You move just right
When we go dancing
Most every night
Oh in the morning
That sun does rise
When we go dancing
It’s going to be all night

Oh that bright light
Shining right in my eye
Oh the phone, the door, the cell
The cat and you’ve got mail
I wash my hands my hair my soul
My minds a mess I can’t let it go
Doesn’t look good from the inside out and I’m
Standing alone in the crowd but when we go

Turn It Up

Written By: Drew WJ

People of the planet Earth we’ve come upon a sacred time
We can Turn a corner hand in hand and walk into a brighter light
From above the picture shows our vulnerability and chance
Together we can weather the storm of our futures and our pasts

So if you’re a Christian or love Islam a Buddhist or Shinto
A Juche, Pagan, Bahai or non of the above for you
We can all respect the diversity of Philosophies at hand
And lead the leaders to the light across this mighty land

You don’t have to gamble to put you love on the line
But if you’re going to roll those dice put it up and let it ride
Count me in I’ll see your love and raise you a little more
When the cards are down you can hear them shout Hey hey

Turn it up feel that power deep inside
Give it up you’ve got nothing left to hide
Stir it up it’s the elixir of life it’s the power of love

The true revolution becomes from within
You reap what you sow and that’s the truth
Our lives move in a circle what goes up must come down
Like the rolling ocean and the breaking surf

It’s not important where you come from or your cultural design
That you love yourself is all that is required
A smile is contagious so goes all the rest
Put the pieces all in place then you’ll find

You don’t have to gamble to put you love on the line
But if you’re going to roll those dice put it up and let it ride
Count me in I’ll see your love and raise you a little more
When the cards are down you can hear them shout Hey hey

Turn it up feel that power deep inside
Give it up you’ve got nothing left to hide
Stir it up it’s the elixir of life it’s the power of love

Hey Hey Jerry

Written By: Drew WJ

Hey Hey Jerry

It was a northern California lovely morning that’s for sure
Drinking cappuccino mochas with my woman on the porch
Bob Keller’s café rock on the radio
You could hear his voice cracking when he told us Jerry’s gone

I called in sick she grabbed the car keys
Never did stop till we reached the golden gate
Huddled with our sisters and brothers on the polo fields
Sharing with faces of love and pain

Carry what you need share what you gather
Always make your life about love and hope
I’ll see you out on the road brother, sister
We will get by we will survive don’t you know
