"Boi-1da premieres Pen Pals album!"

From time to time this game throws a surprise at me, today it done just that as I was introduced to Brooklyn trip Pen Pals. Their debut album was actually forwarded my way five days ago but it accidentally slipped under the radar. I got to it today though and man am I glad I peeped.

New York’s music scene to me, is still one of the strongest, you just have to dig a little deeper than you would of used too. This Brooklyn trio are the perfect example of the talent that can be found in the underground of the big apple. The album has a very nostalgic sound to it, you could say it has your typical NY sound. The production throughout has a very 90’s feel, something that has seemingly gone missing in today’s game. It’s nice to hear this, over the production the trio got busy, I can’t state that enough. These guys can spit and it’s about real shit too. The album comes with one guest feature in Jammi Bass. My personal favourite from the album is ‘R. Crumb’, man these guys went in on that one and that production got me breaking my neck over here. If these three or their manager could get in touch with me it would be appreciated. - Boi-1da

"Pen Pals say STFU"

Sometimes we need that raw, vulgar s@#t! That’s just the way it goes. Squires, The Cynic, & Rapswell aka PEN PALS, crawled out of the sewer and spit their sleazy, infectious debut track at Hip Hop listeners everywhere. Call us masochists, but we loved it! “STFU” will force you to hide the women and children when this crew stomps through your lawn…but that’s okay, because every rose needs smelly fertilizer to survive…and this group knows all about bringin’ the FUNK! - Insomniac Magazine

"Insomniac Mag Exclusive"

Every now and then a group comes along that shakes things up & gives fans the raw, filthy, wild energy missing from today’s cookie-cutter Hip Hop. For us, Insomniac Weekly Top Ten champs, Pen Pals are that group! They simply don’t give a f@#k…but possess mad skills to back up the attitude. We love these guys & are proud to debut Squires, The Cynic & Rapswell’s long-awaited video for “STFU.” Check out the heat & the hilarity below!. - Insomniac Magazine

Still working on that hot first release.

Nico.wav’s recent release, Old Soul is a relatable story of a young man with elite potential working to actualize it. Nico is facing a “quarter-life crisis” where you’re no longer a kid, but still not in the place you want to be as an adult. Reality hits, and priorities change.

Raised in Prince George's County, MD, a predominantly African American community directly adjacent to Washington, DC, Nico was a witness to the unsightly truths of economically weakened communities. With many people never expecting to ever find a way out, Nico refused to be complacent and watch the people in his city live a life absent of hope. At age 16, Nico made a commitment to use his talent for poignant writing, in conjunction with the musical brilliance the DMV-area is known for, to go find hope and opportunities to bring back to the community that shaped him into the man he is today.

Nico’s time in Brooklyn, NY from 2015-2019, studying and pursuing music helped him shape a sound that completely encompasses east coast rap and soul.
In a genre heavily sedated with mindless antics and distressing messages, Nico’s goal is to bring soulful, enfranchised hip hop to everyone that seeks a soundtrack to the ebb and flows of life, and to bring hope to PG County.

Follow Nico on his journey. From PG County w/ ❤️
