"Penguin Kings @Arcade Lane w/collarbones, Archie, Jimmy and the Mirrors"

With a few lanterns, lounges, a well stocked bar and a decent sound system the formerly dingy alley way between Regent Arcade and Adelaide Arcade has been transformed to a bustling hub of music and culture.

Riding off the back of the Fuse Festival, Fourwords pulled together a quality line up of local and interstate acts that proved the Australian live music scene is in a very healthy state. To start things off Queensland lads Penguin Kings pulled out a tight set of indie rock featuring heavy kicks, an incredibly tight rhythm section and dulcet vocals. Recently Unearthed by Triple J, the trio are soon to embark on an interstate tour to promote their debut EP, be sure to catch them if you can.

Next up was electro duo Collarbones who opened with a cracking track of sweet, deep electro beats featuring a soul rumbling bass line. They took it down a notch from there creating some slow syncopated rhythms layered with cruisy beat-poet inspired vocals. Finishing things off with reggae flavour these guys delivered a quality, diverse set that got the party started.

Following on was local outfit Archie with an explosion of jazz and funk featuring beautiful vocal tones from leading lady Annabel Weston. A highlight was the low key cover of White Town’s I Could Never Be Your Woman that showcased the band’s diversity. Jimmy & the Mirrors finished things off with a nicely rounded set that proved why they are one of Adelaide’s foremost up and coming bands. Just returning from a regional tour that;s polished their live show, these guys are making some waves.

Throw in some VJ’s, Track Team DJ’s, live art and an up for it crowd and you have Fourwords at Arcade Lane, a great way to spend a balmy summer’s night. - GIjo, Fasterlouder
