Biography

The Peninsula Young Artists Orchestra

The Organization

The Peninsula Youth Orchestra, now serving over 430 musicians, offers weekly instruction in orchestral training at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. All musicians study the traditional orchestral repertoire with an emphasis on contemporary literature and works by American composers. A chamber music program is available for intermediate and advanced level musicians who wish to experience the small ensemble repertoire. Chamber musicians perform in two formal recitals during the season and also play for community events and private functions.

The Sinfonia Musica, Orchestra Nova, and Young Artists Preparatory Orchestras are directed by Sara Salsbury with the assistance of Troy Davis (woodwind specialist), Don Couch (brass specialist), and Peter Thielen (percussion specialist). Sara also conducts the Chamber Strings.

The Young Artists

The Young Artists is one of the preparatory orchestra for the older Youth Orchestra. It
performed in Carnegie Hall as part of the New York Orchestra Festival in June 2004.
