Carl and Penny individually have stories. Heck, we all do. Most people call him a genius/ridiculous/an angel/their reason for singing, etc. Penny calls him the most natural vehicle for music she has ever witnessed. he simply does not get in the way. Penny has been known as 'the bell'/exquisite/unrivalled stage presence/the voice. Carl says she is the most pure and clear story-teller he has ever met. These two are only different because they are these two. Whether you're into Yin and Yang or Salt n Pepper, there is a fit to this mix that no-one can quite describe or deny.
