"Peoples Palace - Lions EP"

Peoples Palace out of Australia shows some real promise. Vocalist Taylor Stevenson has a tone and a delivery similar to Pat Stump of Fall Out Boy and his voice on top of a steady mix of organic guitars, it creates a nice sonic blend to listen to.

On the band’s Lion EP Stevenson shows off his chops throughout the tracks. The guy can flat out wail. Along with Stevenson, the guitar and bass work that’s accompanying that vocal is really great too. They do a lot of things that were done really well from 2005 – 2010. They use limited resources to create a wall of sound.
The only real problem I have with this EP is the final sound. You can hear every single element you want – great vocal, awesome guitars, and a quality rhythm section – and it all comes together nicely. The main problem is the final playback of what you get needs to be polished. This EP sounds good without it, with a bigger budget for mixing and mastering… it would sound INSANELY good.

People’s Palace has more potential than anything else I've heard in this subgenre in a long time. The first thing that everybody listens for with unsigned/unknown music is the vocalist and Stevenson has Peoples Palace has them completely covered. People’s Palace is good in 2014, next year I’m anticipating them to be great. - Alternative Addiction

"Peoples Palace - One Night Stand"

After scouring through hundreds of acts from NSW's Western Plains we can proudly introduce pop punk act Peoples Palace as the Unearthed winners for triple j's One Night Stand.

Born and bred in Dubbo, the quartet is made up of two brothers, a cousin and a best mate, ranging from only 19-22 years old. Their song 'I Want to Know' caught our eye with equal measures of youthful angst and an energetic take on overcharged pop punk, nodding to hallmark born-in-the-90s influences like Fall Out Boy and The Getaway Plan. They've won the massive opportunity to share the stage in their hometown with Flume, The Rubens, Seth Sentry and Ball Park Music.

Pre show nerves: heaps - sweaty palms, butterflies, extra deodorant

Notable on stage fashion choices: blue beanie, brown leather vest, purple tie die shirt

Time it took to get the front row bouncing: 1 verse

Time it took to get girls (and boys) on shoulders: 2 verses

Time it took to get a crowd clap along: 3 songs

Notable fashion choices in the crowd: feather headress, sombreros, bunny ears, biohazard suits (with optional horsehead), loads of onsies

Lead singer Nathan's advice to the crowd: "if you see someone you like give em a kiss"

Post show mood: ecstatic - ear to ear grins, best memories ever - Triple J

"Peoples Palace - One Night Stand"

It was only last year that Peoples Palace were working on new songs as a regular band trying to make a name for themselves. But after being chosen by radio station Triple J to open the One Night Stand gig, they have been catapulted into the public eye.
Brothers Taylor and Nathan Stevenson, their cousin Blake Stevenson and good friend Billy Rouse are taking the music scene by storm and will soon share the stage with Flume, The Rubens, Seth Sentry and Ball Park Music after winning the Triple J Unearthed competition.
Taylor described the band’s excitement.
“It is pretty incredible to know that such a big festival is coming to Dubbo and that we have been chosen to represent Dubbo. We are all so ecstatic that we have been given the opportunity to play with such a huge line-up. We have been fans of all of them for a while.”
Little did they know that the new song I Want to Know from their recent EP release would not only blow their fans away but would also catch the eye of the judges. The band was chosen out of hundreds of others, with their sound even being compared to Fall Out Boy and The Getaway Plan.
“We’re so stoked that the judges liked our music. It’s an incredible feeling and we will definitely be putting on a big show!” Taylor said.
Since the announcement, the boys have been getting lots of support not only from the Dubbo community but also from fans everywhere.
Billy explained how they have had a great reaction and everyone is really excited and supportive of them.
“When we got played on Triple J we got a lot of support from everyone congratulating us and telling us that they love our music,” he said.
Born and bred in Dubbo, the boys are really excited to get their name out into the music industry and get more exposure in other towns. Each year, Triple J Unearthed provides an opportunity for a local act to open the concert. Previous winners of the station’s competition include The Rubens who won the Unearthed slot at Homebake in 2011 and Ball Park Music who opened the Big Day Out at the Gold Coast in 2011. Both bands will also join Peoples Palace on the big day.
“We love what Triple J is doing bringing all these musicians to regional towns and trying to harness new music and new talent,” Taylor said.
“Hopefully One Night Stand will give us more exposure. We really just want to get our name out there and let a larger variety of people hear our music. We love what we do and this opportunity is incredible,” he explained.
The band describes themselves as pop rock and even though they try and keep their songs as catchy as possible, they confess that they have the odd ballad.
At the moment they are enjoying travelling around to different gigs in Australia but are keen to bring lots of unknown bands to Dubbo to create a more listenable live music atmosphere in their hometown.
“One Night Stand will be incredible for Dubbo. It opens up a whole new level of entertainment and broadens the spectrum for bands and other events to come to Dubbo,” Taylor said. - Photo News
