"Ruby Tuesday - Percolaor"

The purpose of this feature is to plug a lesser known band that I have been impressed by. This week I'm going to talk about a brand spanking new band. So new they have no known website, no video on YouTube, no bibliography on their MySpace but Percolator are a special talent who I think will make it.

I caught Percolator live as a support slot to Swedish indie band Immanu El. Percolator consists of Ian on guitar and vox, Ellie on drums and vox and Jason on Bass. Their sound is indie rock at it's best. A reference comparison point would be My Bloody Valentine due to the wonderful male/female harmonies and distorted guitars. Ian sings like Swervedriver's Adam Franklin. The band performed that show a few weeks back as a neat tidy unit of three excellent musicians creating wonderful indie rock music. Go on.....add the band on their MySpace! - http://mixtape4melfi.blogspot.com/2008/10/ruby-tuesday-percolator.html

"Bring on Percolator"

This Saturday at 7pm, weather permitting, the People's Park is set to steam-over when the Percolators (pictured above) hit the Bandstand full on.

After building up a loyal audience in Waterford, Percolator has been making forays into other parts of the country including Dublin and more recently The Infirmary in Cork where they received a rapturous reception. The band were the special guests at the launch of 'Artbeat' a month ago when their storming set shook the foundations of Greyfriars' Gallery itself.

Percolator is a three piece band made up of Ellie on drums, Ian on Guitars and Orlando on keyboards. Their sound is alternately melodic, hard, raw and flowing in overdriven guitars. Once described as My Bloody Valentine meets The Smashing Pumpkins, the Percolators is beginning to find their own unique voice and is gaining the interest from a number of record companies.

The Band is said to be busy collecting material for a debut album for late this year or early 2009. - Waterford Today

Discography

Songs from their self produced demo are regularly played on Cork's Red Fm by the dj Michael Carr, and by Brendan McGuirk in Dublin.

Bio

Percolator is an Irish three-piece band from Waterford made up of Jason Grant on bass, Eleanor on drums and vocals and Ian Chestnutt on Guitars and vocals. Recently they have been gigging as much as possible at numerous venues in Dublin, Cork, and other Irish cities, with bands such as Ilya K, Immanu El and Katie Kim, and also at the Irish Green Gathering establishing themselves as an exciting upcoming band in the Irish alternative scene. They have also secured a supporting slot with A Place To Bury Strangers in Andrew's Lane Theatre , Dublin. Right now the three are working on their first EP which is due for release in March 2009. Demos of their work have already been given some radio play and attention from promoters and magazines. Repeated comparisons have been made to My Bloody Valentine, and Sonic Youth. This may be down to the boy/girl vocals, or Ian's preference for Jazzmasters and altenate tunings, but their music is not necessarily just for gazing at your shoes, it has a raw edge which comes across well live, and there are high expectations for their forthcoming EP.
