Bio

The group brings together Matthew Bourne, Paul Issa and Kane Goodwin on percussion and respected Sydney DJ Benjamin Chinnock aka Bentley on turntables.Having play Becks Festival Bar in support of African band Panjea, Earthdance and Amnesty International Freedom Festival plus a host of inner city clubs Percussion Junction have never failed to rock the dance floor with their infectious Tribal blend of electro house and funk driven breakbeat. This is world music for the dance floor.

Matthew Bourne:
Matt has been playing percussion since 1997 years and has been teaching since 1999. In this time he has played in a vast variety of musical settings from a range of cultural backgrounds. This includes performances with touring international artists from Spain, India and Turkey. Matt is competent in a wide variety of percussive styles from Funk to Arabic and has travelled widely including trips to Cuba, West Africa and South America to experience and study percussion first hand.
Weapons of Choice: Congas, Djembe & Bongos.

Paul Issa
Paul has been playing percussion since 1990. In this time Paul has played with many of the finest international and local drummers and percussionist such as Hozam Ramsal, Ben Walsh & Greg Shehan. Since 2000 Paul has been playing in Sydney nightclubs combining his love of Middle Eastern beats with modern music. Paul also often fines himself playing traditional Lebanese belly dancing shows.

Kane Goodwin
Kane has been playing drums and percussion since 1989. Starting out playing in rock bands around Wollongong such as The Unheard, Dettol, Roads, Boys on Bex. With these bands Kane has been lucky supported the likes of Suicidal Tendencies, Bodyjar, Blink 182, Regurgitator, Front End Loader and Tumbleweed. Kane has been studying Cuban and African rhythms and a range of percussion instruments since 1998 which has lead him playing in electronic / live percussion band called ‘The FISTS’ which incorporate live drums and sequencing. The FISTS have supported The Resin Dogs, Endorphin, Nu Breed, Q45 and Johnny Gleeson.
Weapons of Choice: Specialise in drum kit but also bongos, timbales, cowbells, my head, steering wheels and tables

Benjamin Chinnock

Bentley a.k.a. Benjamin Chinnock has been involved in the music scene this 1999 running success nights such as drop, Wasabi, Vindaloops and Dust Tones. As a DJ he currently holds residences at Establishment, @Newtown, The Civic and The Clare and The Marble Bar. Add to these guest appearances and support slots with the likes of Sonic Animation, Soma Rosa, Bass Kelph, Ajax, The Bird, The Herd, Fatt Dex, Entropic, deepchild, meem and Kid Kenobi and internationals such as Domu, Ben Mono, Ursula Rucker and The Nomad. Recent performances have included sets at The Loft, The Beach RD, Freeform, Hopscotch @ V-Bar, Naked, Bump and Ruby Rabbit.

Since1999 bentley has held residences at places such as The Dendy, The Vault, The Arthouse, Establishment, The Clare and Candy’s Apartment. Add to this, playing parties in a range of places including warehouses, bush doofs including an annual spot at Earthdance, clubs, pubs and bars. It doesn’t seem to matter where he plays - Bentley’s ability to read a crowd and deliver a dance floor friendly set is always evident. With one set never being the same Bentley refuses to be pigeonholed into any one genre. Crossing everything from Beats to Breaks, Global to Funk, Hip Hop to Dub and Nu Jazz to Electro and House, as long as it’s quality, Bentley can be found playing it. Added to this is his passion for music across all media. Benjamin both writes for street press magazines the Brag and Drum Media and hosts a weekly Australian electronic music show called Electroplastique on Sydney's student radio station 2SER and is also AMRAP Music Correspondent.
Weapon of Choice: Turntables

Note: Matt, Paul & Kane have been playing together for since 1999. As a group they create punchy, high energy performances. They regularly play at festivals, clubs and private parties. Since 2000 they have been playing with DJ’s around Sydney. They also often fine themselves playing traditional Lebanese belly dancing shows and live percussion. Influences are acts which incorporate live instrumentation with electronic sounds, acts such as The Bird, Resin Dogs and The Freestylers.
