Bio

Perfect Blue is not based on the japanime movie titled perfect blue. perfect blue is a mood, a feeling, a visual soundscape, everchanging yet everpresent.

Perfect Blue in the first inception was just Mike Hampton and Christy Samoy recording on their desktop through the computer microphone to a trial version of Sonic Foundry Acid 2.0. One of them would start with a guitar melody or rhythm track, and then they would build the song from there. They would create a layered song reminiscent of bands that they had been listening to since they were teenagers. Bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Dandy Warhols, Echo and the Bunnymen were reflected in their songs. Eventually the catalog grew, and then was depleted with a computer crash.

Then a Lexicon interface complete with Cubase was purchased, and it got a little more serious. Perfect Blue played the first show at Les Bon Temps Roulez in New Orleans with friends Alfredo Noguiera on guitar and Ronnie on drums. After that, Alfredo moved to drums, Adam Fayette became guitarist, and Lisa Samoy played miscellaneous instruments. They practiced, but alas, Katrina hit. They never played a show.

Mike and Christy moved to San Diego in 2005, and they met Adam McMarlin, who became their new lead guitarist. The sound of the band became a little less shoegaze, more indie rock. They went through a couple drummers, and played several shows at local venues; San Diego Sports Club (now the Ruby Room), Chasers (now the Soda Bar), O'Connell's, the Pride Fest, The Beauty Bar, Tio Leo's, the Cat Club in LA, The Radio Room.

Perfect Blue recorded an album with previous drummer, Christina Sousa. It should be coming out this summer - 2009. The latest drummer acquisition, Carl Koerner, comes to us from Australia down under with his Roland V drums. This is very strange and exciting, because when he twirls his drumsticks, they spin clockwise instead of counterclockwise. Perfect Blue has plans to release this album and play several venues in the SoCal area this coming summer.
