“Jon Carroll is a one man
band, a poet, a songwriter,
a singer of every kind of

musician’s musician. This
wonderful record shows
the remarkable confluence
of his gifts, and I can also
attest to his being a
not-to-be-missed performer.” - Mary Chapin Carpenter

I can’t choose which one to put into

Bio

It's a New Orleans song cycle about love, magic, and the qualities of swamp water. LOVE CONJURES ALL!!

"PERFUME RIVER: A SWAMP WATER LOVE STORY" Marie loves Jon the piano player. Does he love her? At the Crawdaddy near New Orleans, the late-night crowd finds the rhythm and blues of a night transformed by an aphrodisiac nonpareil – the swamp water out back!

PERFUME RIVER is also a stage musical centered around a band in a Louisiana bar called the Crawdaddy. The songs, all Louisiana style R&B, are what the band Perfume River plays. Hot, beautiful, soulful, and sweet.

The music is all written by multiple Grammy-winner Jon Carroll and award-winning composer and performer David Maddox. (For the stage musical they are joined by another Helen Hayes winner, writer Mary Hall Surface.) The band is a great collection of Washington and New York talent. In addition to Maddox and Carroll, Perfume River includes former Trapezoid bassist Ralph Gordon, drummer Dwayne Nitz, and Helen Hayes Award winning stage singer Sherri Edelen.
