From Vancouver, BC, Canada, The Pernell Reichert Band is a three-piece group that has been together for 10+ years. Well received at folk festivals, pubs and coffee houses throughout Western Canada, the band features fast fingering-picking Pernell Reichert on guitar (acoustic & electric slide), banjo, harmonica and vocals, Ross Fairbairn on bass and backup vocals and Tom Tischer on drums and backup vocals. Their music is razor sharp folk, alt-country or cow punk. The band’s witty banter with the audience accompanied by their fast folksy songs, electric slide and foot-stompin’ banjo tunes, interspersed with melodic self-penned ballads by Pernell, provide for a great evening of all around entertainment. In the early 90’s, with his guitar in tow, Pernell lived the life of an itinerant roamer. Whether tree planting in the mountains of his native British Columbia, farming on kibbutz’s of the Middle East and farms of Great Britain, or avoiding accidents as a roughneck on the rigs of the Canadian oil patch – Pernell perfected his guitar playing style and began to pen the songs that would become his narrative; songs that reflect his journey through life including the challenges of broken relationships, and the questioning conundrum experienced when things in reality don’t jibe with the ‘system’. Performing as a solo artist throughout those early years, whether on the stage of a pub in Bristol, England – or at an open mic on The Drive in Vancouver, BC – Pernell developed his unique panache – a style of guitar playing described as high energy with fast finger-picking numbers that keep the audience captivated. In 2004 after putting down roots and settling into his native Vancouver, BC music scene, Pernell founded his first band, known as Pernell Reichert and the Hard Drinkers. With a lot of serious hard work that year, the band developed a tight set with an upbeat tempo and a full thick sound along with a newly penned repertoire of songs designed for the three-piece group. The following year, 2005, with Pernell’s solo album in hand – the band set out on their first month-long debut tour of western Canada. Most of 2006 was spent in the studio preparing their first CD as a band, interspersed with venues that enabled them to refine their performance as a group. And in 2007 they embarked on several five-day tours, breaking into the western Canada touring circuit.
