High Security Warning:

BEWARE! THIS IS NOT A JAPANESE BAND. Although (China + Electronica) is perceived by ordinary EU citizens only to exist in the form of cheap DVD players and small home appliances, Chinese electro does indeed exist.

Pet was formed in a secret lab in Beijing the winter of 2007. Consisting of lead singer Helen Feng from ZIYO (named by Time-Out as one of China’s top rockstars) and Huzi one of China’s most reknowned electronica artists, the initial project seemed like the beginnings of a superband. From their surprising debute, critics applauded their over the top performances mixed with a theatrical style of electro. Not satisfied with mere superbandness they lusted to take over the world. The west watched the seemingly peaceful 2008 Beijing Olympic Games unknowing of the secret menace brewing in the Beijing underground music scene. Meanwhile, Pet Conspiracy developed a live show that became a never before seen or heard blend of 80’s Chinese Disco, 30’s German Cabaret, and 21st Century Electro. After playing at the Transmission Festival, other bands like Canada’s “You Say Party We Say Die” and “Wood Hands” buzzed about Pet.

That summer, drummer Edo joined Pet Conspiracy bringing a straight and rough drums that laced their sound with punk energy. With little pre-planning, Pet set off on an ambitious tour of Europe in October of 2008 to test their Weapon of Mass Distraction. In one short month of touring and with only a roughly recorded demo in hand, they blew away audiences across Europe. They orchestrated a pack room of dancing moshing bodies at Barcelona’s Razzmatazz, they manipulated a crowd of young impressionable teens to tear down speakers at the Like Party in Cologne, and they even stole the show at Berlin’s White Trash Fastfood during Popkomm, kicking over plates of greasy burgers while wowing music critics.

Shortly after returning to Beijing, Pet Conspiracy added conspirators DJ Mary and designer, kids show voice-over actress, and tv director Yun Yun as deceptively cute 2nd Vocalist. Now, with the deadly squad in place, they embark again for Europe August through September 2009.
