Bio
It’s an unlikely story… a rising Rugby football star gets so badly
injured that he has to leave his sport behind. He picks up an acoustic guitar,
teaches himself how to play it and records an indie CD that he sells after
shows from the back of his Kombi Van.
His debut album, the roots/rock infused ‘Feeler’ (2003),
snowballs through old-fashioned word of mouth and sell out shows until a year
later he becomes Australia’s most popular singer/songwriter. ‘Feeler’
goes on to sell 6 x platinum in Australia (450,000 copies) and earns 12 ARIA
Award nominations.
‘Feeler’ eventually spends over two and
a half years, yes years, in the Top 100. The acclaimed album spawns his classic
‘So Beautiful’ which goes on to become the Most Performed Australian Song of
the Year, and several other radio tracks including ‘Bail Me Out’, ‘Feeler’ and
‘Lines’.
Pete and his band stay on the road with repeated homeland tours and
ever-increasing crowds, headlining festival performances and the beginning of
an international career with sold out dates in England, Ireland and Continental
Europe.
In late 2005 his sophomore album, ‘See The Sun’ debuts at #1 in
Australia. The first single ‘Better Days’ becomes a #1 airplay track while
‘Opportunity’ becomes the biggest song of 2006, earning the most played track
at Australian radio. Pete tours internationally twice in 2006 and his own shows
sell out major venues in New York, Dublin, London, Manchester and Amsterdam.
In 2008 Pete releases his third album ‘Summer At Eureka’. The
album debuts at #1 in Australia – making this Pete Murray’s third consecutive
album to hit the top of the charts. A positive energy radiates through this
album, Pete’s first self-produced effort.
2010 sees Pete Murray release his fourth studio album ‘Blue Sky Blue’
which shows a more upbeat
and fun side of Pete. The album sold GOLD and spawned the hits ‘Always A
Winner’ and ‘Free’ followed by sold out shows in Europe, Brazil and Canada.
In early 2013
Pete releases “The Byron Sessions”
an album with new acoustic versions of tracks from his Blue Sky Blue album. It's a
labour of love and features guest appearances by some of Pete’s muso mates
including Bernard Fanning and Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), Ash Grunwald,
Scotty Owen (The Living End), Katie Noonan, and Fantine.
2013 is the 10 Year Anniversary of the release of Pete’s
definitive debut album ‘Feeler'. On November 15th, 2013, Pete Murray re-releases this definitive album as
a special 10 year anniversary edition, re-mastered at the legendary Abbey Road
Studios. It includes a bonus CD featuring the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra
performing Feeler in full, mixed with original album masters.
To celebrate 10 years since the release of his
debut album Pete and his original band ‘The
Stonemasons’ head out on the 'Feeler
10 Year Anniversary Tour' playing to sold out shows around the country. The tour spans 25 shows, selling out iconic Australian theatres such as the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, Forum Theatre in Melbourne, The Tivoli in Brisbane, Astor Theatre in Perth and a massive 4,500+ tickets sold for Adelaide's Bird In Hand Winery. Pete is in career-best form, and continues on to a run of packed headline shows in Singapore, UK, Netherlands and Canada.
With three #1 albums, over a million records sold, and a string of hits including 'So Beautiful', 'Opportunity', 'Better Days' and 'Always A Winner', Pete Murray continues to showcase why he's one of Australia's most loved singer-songwriters.
"Murray interacts so seamlessly with his band that at times this feels like a wonderful private recording among friends... Murray's voice has never sounded better; smoky, smooth and always soulful. Feeler's success gave Murray the chance to show everyone what he's capable of, and he delivers in spades"
