Pete Bernhard's cigarette-smoked vocals and honk-tonk finger picking is music I would listen to as I walked into the glinting sunset, moments after I killed a man, six-shooter smoking, and the cold hand of remorse creeping into my dusty heart. The gentle twang of Pete Bernhard's subtle melodies would be playing in the background as I tipped my hat to a corseted lady of the night, feet kicked up, with a shot of whiskey burning in my gullet. You need to get you and your cowboy boots to Valentine's to see this man perform.

Pete Bernhard was born in rural Vermont and comes from a family of musicians. He is the lead singer and main songwriter for the acoustic trio The Devil Makes Three based out of Santa Cruz California and has recently released his second solo album.
The songs carry on the tradition symbolized by
mythological giants Woody Guthrie, Jack Kerouac and Bob Dylan, the American drifter with a keen, poetic and sweetly disdainful view of life.
Even though he's just 26, Pete Bernhard is like an
old ghost, channeling and harmonizing the oddities of human existence, making them come alive in song. He takes nothing for granted. No assumptions handed him are sacred. Like the pioneer American Voices before him, Pete trusts what he sees and feels as true, and relays the vision with an unflinching eye.
