"BBC Radio South Live's Phil Jackson played Pete Christie’s song ‘Normal Shade of Blue’ from the album ‘Frank’"

Quotes from the Demo panel on BBC Radio South Live about Pete Christie, his song and his approach to music :

- Chris Taylor, The Greys, Brighton

The one thing I look for in a good songwriter is where a performer paints good pictures and this man does that.
If you close your eyes when you listen to his lyrics, you can see those pictures – They’re there. They’re real and that’s the essence of good storytelling with a song.
There’s a lot more going on behind the voice than you immediately gather.
His south of the river, not Americanised, voice works very well.

- Al Scott, Metway Studio, Brighton

I thought he was extremely accomplished. The whole package just sounds like he really knows what he’s doing. It was a nice song, an interesting lyric. He plays very well.
He bought and interesting edge to it.
The band were understated but right where they wanted to be.
Very Good.

- Nick Coquet, The Brighton Source

Nice sparse arrangement, a simplicity emphasises the story-telling aspect. There’s a melancholic maturity in what he’s talking about and I think that matches the maturity of the man.
Uncluttered – Let’s the flow of his words come out.

"Pete Christie album ‘Frank’ – Review by Fiona Heyes"

Pete Christie has released several successful CD's, either as solo albums or as a duo with Pete Wallbridge on bass guitar. This album takes Pete in a new direction, incorporating keyboards, drums, percussion, backing vocals and a brass band all to excellent effect. His fellow musicians on this album are Pete Wallbridge, Ted Wallbridge, Frankie Milner, Aimee Newsome-Stone, Monique Houraghan and the Band of the Royal British Legion Christchurch. All the songs, with the exception of track 3, are written by Pete and this CD showcases his craftsmanship of supreme honesty and integrity in his writing, crystal clear diction within a warm caring voice, all backed by gloriously skilful
playing on his guitar/s.

You might have heard some of these songs before, but on Frank, Pete Christie gives them a new and refreshing treatment. The CD starts with Open Your Heart, a steady, slow-paced, earnest version of his song, sung with conviction, with good emotional movement through the song. Next we have a mini masterpiece, Normal Shade of Blue. The addition of other musicians on this track reduces the impact of the awesome loneliness of Pete's solo guitar version, a welcome relief for those not readily given to tears. Not Dark Yet on track 3 is the almost obligatory “song by another songwriter” on the CD, this by Bob Dylan. Pete has made this song very much his own, and plays it as a “one foot in front of another” moody track, cleverly arranged, especially the ending.

Shattered is a powerful song about powerful emotions. Pete's song writing and delivery offers empathy to those who have been there and an experience of what can be to those who haven't. A powerhouse of a song. His oft requested song Waiting in the Wings is given new depth by the splendid addition of the Band of the Royal British Legion Christchurch. Pete's vocals (both of them) and guitar work, exceptional as ever, are wonderfully warmed by the band.

Once you've recovered from the surprise of the drum start and finish on Easy Come, Easy Go, this upbeat track is a joyous lift. The dynamics are well conceived and are wonderfully subtle. On Monday Morning the keyboards give a feeling of being left over from Sunday, totally appropriate in this song, which expresses beautifully a very British feeling about Mondays in our Winter – and Autumn and Spring come to that! A deliciously disciplined delivery guaranteed to keep you tucked up in a warm bed
(Please note: it will not, however, be acceptable as a “reasonable excuse” for taking a day off work or school).

Track 8 Making Waves, is a song of consequence and consequences, performed with an inner determination/self recrimination which many will recognise from our own lives. Last, but by no means least is Just a Song. Apparently a simple song, but it is deceptive, as Pete's song writing skills simply ooze out of every bar. The honesty shines and the integrity is woven into life's rich tapestry. As the last guitar harmonic fades slowly, you may well realise what a privilege it has been to share the last 47 minutes with a very Frank insight into the sharper edges of life.

Pete Christie's technical team did a good job for him in Active Music Studios along with the astute ears of Martin Condon. Frank is packaged well, all the information you need is to hand, plus the bonus of a brilliant photograph of Pete Christie x 7 in the same room, courtesy of Robert Whetton, all pulled together skilfully in black and white by Bob Hall of Graphic Artwork.

This is a CD that insists on being taken personally, it's a veritable soundtrack to life. Don't plan to put this on your audio/computer/MP3 player to have as background music, it demands your emotional attention and you will be well rewarded for spending time with a very Frank and talented Pete Christie, singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist. - Fiona Heyes

"BHOne Review of Part:Three"

“On paper (or the internet) part:three certainly looked like a gig worthy of attendance. Three quality artists, all of who ply their artistic trade simply (for the most part) through voice and guitar, sharing the stage, each other’s songs, and banter with an appreciative and attentive audience”. - Tony Foster

I quite enjoy being “under the radar” (great expression). I get a massive amount of fun walking on stage for the first time at a new venue knowing that not everyone is aware of what I do. And then watching their reaction!! That’s all part of the fun of touring and being an itinerant balladeer! It’s what keeps me on the road – it always has!”
