"The Optical Illusion Review"

"A lively and expressionistic piece of music. Pete McAllen has enough vibe and vigour to keep this 6 part EP together. Six Tracks are always a curious beast - to leave you wondering if an artist is going for extended single or they didnt have enough material to produce an album.

The material is certainly devoid of repetition. 'One Chance' is certainly a wonderous construct. Pulling on more orchestral and accoustic types of strings than the electric type. McAllen swings between moody and loud with ease.

A worthy addition to any collection. "

"Fresh New Music: Pete McAllen"

Pete McAllen is a new face on the scene, a songwriter with the potential to make a real impact in the coming year. His debut release ‘Optical Illusion’ spends no time easing you in: the opening track ‘Revolutionary’ is bursting with energy. The choruses of the opening songs are animated, catchy, and cunningly powerful. The CD culminates in the middle section of ‘There’s a Light’, where the band let fly with relentless guitars and a crashing drum sound that grabs you by the ears. This ‘wall of sound’ effect reappears in his live performance, giving him the edge over some of the more lo-fi indie performers on the circuit today. The appeal of ‘The Optical Illusion’ lies in these moments of raw musical intensity that pierce through the acoustic skeletons of the songs. This is not to take anything away from the quieter elements of the album: it is here that McAllen’s lone voice and intriguing lyrical command finds depth. Fans of anybody from Razorlight through to Radiohead should buy this CD, as should any fans of fresh musical talent - Rocksoc, Exeter
