Interioration: the process of changing to a superior state. It's a made up word, but the concept is simple and when you apply it to funk you get Pete O'Connell's newest project.

Biography

Pete O'Connell is currently in his final semester at NYU, where he is studying music. Drawing on influences from jazz masters such as Weather Report and Herbie Hancock as well as punk rock heroes like The Clash have given Pete a unique outlook on how music should sound a be performed. He chooses to lean towards the funky side of things most of the time, but improvisation is always the key, and therefore the music can (and does) go elsewhere at times. He also chooses to do various covers of popular music and using them as a vehicle for improv. In addition to Interioration, his own group, Pete also plays with groups like Waking Dead, The Ambitious Orchestra, and other jazz groups, as well as occasional reunions with his old band, the Electric Soul Theory. He has studied, rehearsed and/or performed with artists such as John Scofield, Lenny Pickett, Mike Richmond, Gil Goldstein, Dafnis Prieto, Brian Torff, Jean-Michel Pilc, Tony Moreno, Ron McClure, and George Garzone.
