Bio
"Virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone" (New York Times) and "Remarkable" (Wall Street Journal), identical twins Peter and Will Anderson have distinguished themselves as top-level jazz players and composers in New York City, and "they play with a passion, unpredictability and sense of discovery" (All About Jazz). At age 13, they toured the U.K., playing traditional jazz and swing music. Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, they were first mentored by saxophonist Paul Carr, before attending Juilliard in New York City.
Peter and Will Anderson have played with Wynton Marsalis' Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Jimmy Heath Big Band, Village Vanguard Orchestra, Michael Feinstein, Paul Simon, and Liza Minnelli. Leading their own ensemble, they've performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Iridium, Symphony Space, Blues Alley, East Coast Jazz Fest, Pennsylvania Jazz Fest, Mid-Altantic Jazz Fest, New Jersey Jazz Fest, Buck Hill Skytop Fest, Empire State Building, Louis Armstrong House, Hunter College, Stony Brook and Michigan State Universities. They have produced and performed in two highly-acclaimed off-broadway jazz shows at 59E59 Theaters in 2010 and 2012, honoring Artie Shaw and the Dorsey Brothers, the last of which sold out for 30 consecutive shows. Peter and Will are featured in HBO's Boardwalk Empire and on the Grammy-winning soundtrack with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, with whom they frequently perform. They can be heard Thursday nights at 59E59 Theater's E:Bar in Manhattan.
The Anderson's debut recording, Correspondence (Smalls Records), features Kenny Barron, Kenny Washington, and Ben Wolfe, consisting of their original music. On March 14th, 2013 the Anderson's are leading a Highlights in Jazz concert featuring Wycliffe Gordon, Warren Vache, and Howard Alden.
