BandRockSinger/Songwriter

'Rich, dynamic melodies and strong, distinctive lyrics from an excellent performer' The Troubadour Club, London.

Biography

Peter Appleyard is an expert at making afternoon tea. He also writes, records and performs exceedingly fine music too.

Bringing together a vast array of influences from the worlds of rock, pop & folk Peter crafts distinctive, feel-good & emotionally charged compositions. Its a heady brew indeed!

Starting out in the days of C90 tapes and 4 track Peter has never been limited by the resources available. It was these early recordings that found their way on to national television as the soundtrack to major television shows and news features.

Following some well received EPs Peter released his debut album 'Day in the sun' worldwide digitally in early 2010. Featuring the award nominated tracks 'Can't help smiling' and 'Popstar', the release firmly established his confident and original style. The album picked up regional airplay on BBC Eastern Counties, was featured on BBC Cambridgeshire Introducing, and received strong support from BBC Radio Norfolk as well as many other stations.

Performing the tracks live throughout the UK particularly showed the strength and wide appeal of Peters music. Making the national final of the Exposure Music Awards 2011 in London for Best Live act confirmed his talent too. Supporting some of Peters favourite independent and established artists proved a great experience and helped take his music to a new audience. As well as sold out shows locally Peter played national venues such as the legendary Troubadour Club (London), the iconic Hare & Hounds (Birmingham) and the Award winning Inn at Lathones (St Andrews).

Currently holed up in the wilds of rural Norfolk recording with acclaimed producer/engineer Jonny Cole, Peter plans to build on this early success. Working again with New Zealand based Songwriter/Actor Kevin Harty and backed by some of the UKs finest musicians the follow-up to 'Day in the sun' is shaping up rather nicely indeed. Be sure to keep a lookout as Peter will be posting a few tasters of the new material online in the coming months.

'Very, very impressive' BBC Radio Norfolk

'A great set all round from this talented new artist' Nick Rose, MusicNews.com

'Liked the structure of the songs, the intelligent lyrics, sincere performance' Exposure Music Awards, Cargo, London.

'Really like the album' Bob Patterson, BPA Live/Americana UK.

Sleepless

SLEEPLESS (Appleyard/Harty/Hill)

Verse 1

Sleepless nights in summertime
a thousand thoughts running through my mind
Days of longing and regret
Are locked inside my head
They’re here inside my head

Verse 2
Endless days under lazy sun
Remind me of how it all began
Now it’s that time of year again
It brings it all flooding back
It's high tide inside my head

Chorus:
If I could close my eyes
I'd have a chance to dream
I could touch, almost taste
Believe that you were real
If I could close my eyes
I would reconcile
And we would be forever one
Under a sleepless sun

If I could close my eyes...

Verse 3
Starless skies are now all I see
No light to guide from this path I lead
Cloaked by night I can hardly see
Always searching for something more
Always searching for tomorrows dawn

Chorus:
If I could close my eyes
I'd have a chance to dream
I could touch, almost taste
Believe that you were real
If I could close my eyes
I would reconcile
And we would be forever one
Under a sleepless sun

Coda:
If I could close my eyes
Believe that you were real
If I could close my eyes
Then we would be forever one
Under a sleepless sun

Can't help smiling

Written By: Peter Appleyard & Kevin Harty

Can’t Help Smiling

V1
It’s raining / it’s pouring down
The traffic’s backed up across this town
I’m hoping my phone will ring and it’s you

V2
I’m driving / I’ve stopped again
It’s work’s at 8 / I won’t be there ‘til 10
I’m taking / what the day can bring to me

Pre-Ch 1
There’s a drip, drip, drip down the back of my neck
There’s a hole in the roof and I’m getting wet / But I

Ch
Can’t help smiling
I see your face / the sun is always shining /
I kiss your mouth / my temp’rature climbing
You’re the sun, I soak you up / you’re my favourite comic book
You keep me smiling, keep me smiling, you keep me smiling

V3
This morning / I heard them say
It’s raining now but there’ll be snow on the way
The airport / is closing its doors tonight

V4
I’m sleeping / don’t wake the dead
I’ve got the covers pulled up over my head
I’m hoping / I’m not working today

Pre-Ch 2
There’s a drip, drip, drip down the back of my neck
There’s a hole in the roof and I’m getting wet / But I

Ch
Can’t help smiling
I see your face / the sun is always shining /
I kiss your mouth / my temperatures starts climbing
You’re the sun, I soak you up / you’re my favourite comic book
You chase the shadows from my soul / you keep me sane, you keep me whole

You keep me smiling, You keep me smiling, You keep me smiling

Bridge
No-one to hear what I say
Oh funny farm come and take me away
All my bills are different shade of red
TV’s gone mad / it won’t behave
The radios thru’ the microwave
Next door neighbours think I might be dead

But I know something that they don’t know
Love’s back in town and she’s coming home
Yeah I know something they don’t know
Love’s back in town……

Ch
Ch
Can’t help smiling
I see your face / the sun is always shining /
I kiss your mouth / my temperatures starts climbing
You’re the sun, I soak you up / you’re my favourite comic book
You chase the shadows from my soul / you keep me sane, you keep me whole

You keep me smiling,
You keep me smiling,
You keep me smiling
Oh yeah!
