Bio

Peter Hoven

was born in Kroonstad and currently lives in Johannesburg, South Africa. After a 4 year stint at Northwest University in Potchefstroom, being a musician was inevitably what he was going to do for a living by always having had a passionate love for music.
Having dabbled in performances throughout his studies, he started his musical career when he formed an acoustic duo with Gerald Clark ( Delta Blue ) called Clark & Van der Hoven in January 2006. This was a very good learning curve for Peter and had some rewards, by being voted best band of the August leg of Oppikoppi 2006. This duo split up after two years when Peter realized that he wanted to have more individual freedom to control the outcome of the music he was writing.
He has shared stages with the likes of Albert Frost, RJ Benjamin, Bok van Blerk and Southern Gypsy Queen to mention a few. In 2007, Peter Hoven was invited to perform with a renowned American blues/folk artist Brian Kramer at the annual Aardklop Arts Festival hosted in Potchefstroom. This same year he was also invited to be a judge in the Rockspaaider competition, which was won by the Afrikaans rock outfit Ef-L, in 2007.
Since then he has been working on his first solo album that will certainly be something to look out for! His vocals capture the essence of melodic soulfulness with a rhythmic acoustic guitar following suit. In recent years he has performed at Oppikoppi (Easter & August), Splashy Fen, White Mountain Folk Festival and STRAB in Mozambique. Among other endeavours, Hoven has been the producer of The Eric Clapton ‘Slowhand’ Tribute Show for the last year and a half with great success. He has also recently branched out to the acting and voice over industry, securing his first lead role in an upcoming Wimpy advertisement.
Peter Hoven’s music has a soft yet edgy flavor to it and can be appreciated by any music lover.
