Reviews for Peter Olsen's old duo "Pete and Fiete"

‘Their sound is fresh and original; it draws on ethnic/world music and is adapted for younger audiences. Nevertheless, they are both flexible players and can adjust to a variety of audiences.’ Brendan Sheehan, Proprietor, Gypsy Bar, Canberra

‘Pete & Fiete not only exceeded my expectations of 'funkiness', but somehow seemed to redefine the term!...as the music, being far from contemporary in definition, was very appealing to a wide range of people.’ Bindi Brien, Canberra Theatre

‘Pete & Fiete kicked off the night’s proceedings and played a typically impressive set which fully demonstrated their skill and prowess in firing up the classical guitar and then stretching it to its limits, flamenco and western (as I’d like to call it) have never sounded so good.’ Pete Papathanasiou, BMA No.97, Jan 2000

'What followed from Pete & Fiete was something very strange and special......If you need a band to play a party then these guys could be the right ones for you.' Johnboy, Riotact 2001

'With acoustic and electric guitars together, Pete and Fiete dished out great tunes ranging from sleazy to Greek.' Dallas Houldsworth, BMA - various

Hi, my name is Pete Olsen, an independent multi-instrumentalist songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. I've been playing music since 'learning' the piano at the age of 8, however I am still yet to actually practice the instrument. I moved on to drums at 11 years of age, which I took a little more seriously, getting scholarships to study percussion at the Canberra School of Music, and co-writing my first drum piece with my teacher Matt Moore entitled 'Anna's Revenge', about my sister.

Years later, I dropped out of the school to pursue a lifestyle of rock and roll, while doing a degree in composition. At 15, I formed my first band Underdog , I thought this was the only way I could ever get laid and avoid having to get a real job. Fiete Geier ended up playing bass in the band, which started a musical partnership resulting in the duo Pete and Fiete. The Pete and Fiete band, who developed thier own style of eastern fusion rock, are still active and can the found playing regularly at Canberra's greatest ever pub, the Phoenix.

Pete and Fiete also provided the rhythm section for many bands like Fred Smith, Simone and the Soothsayers, , Mikelangelo and the DCSLA, Conan the Bubbleman and Andy Stone.

I recently moved from Canberra to Melbourne for the obvious reasons, and I have just released a solo EP called Something Delivered to which to response has been fantastic! A big thankyou to all those who have bought the cd.

To anyone who's new to my site, I hope you enjoy my music.
