*"HUFFLIGNON" recorded on February 14th released in October 2008 by Clean Feed Records

Canadian saxophonist Peter Van Huffel and Belgian vocalist Sophie Tassignon have collaborated to form one of the most unique new groups in the improvised music world. Tassignon, renowned for her ability to sing “unsingable melodies” with a truly unique style, performs with numerous groups around Europe including the Screaming Bitches and the Folk/Tassignon Quartet. She released her debut CD, “Moon Talk”, featuring her quartet Zoshia on Alone Blue Records in 2006.
Van Huffel, an active performer on the New York, Canadian and European Jazz scenes, can be heard in all types of settings, from the New York based trio Animal Forum to collaborations with Berlin bassist Roland Fidezius, and in duo with Belgian clarinetist Joachim Badenhorst. Peter’s last recording, “Silvester Battlefield”, features his New York Quintet and was released in the summer of 2007 on the Fresh Sound/ New Talent Record Label.

Together with Canadian, New York-based bassist Michael Bates (Green Leaf Records) and Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser (Between the Lines), Van Huffel and Tassignon perform a variety of their own compositions, ranging from beautiful melodies and stretching into experimental improvisations. The group’s debut CD, featuring original compositions by both band leaders and a unique interpretation of Vivaldi’s Cum Dederit, will be released this fall on the renowned Portuguese label Clean Feed Records.
